Retrieving & Clearing Diagnostic Trouble Codes

Diagnostic procedures are designed to detect system faults as quickly as possible. Body control computer system diagnostic fault messages are accessed through Data Link Connector (DLC). See Figure . Procedures are written specifically for Chrysler's Diagnostic Readout Box (DRB) scan tool. Generic scan tool can be used but may have limited functionality.
- Turn ignition off. Connect scan tool to DLC. Turn ignition on. Using scan tool, attempt to communicate with all modules. If communications was established with all module, go to next step. If communications was not established with any module, perform appropriate test under COMMUNICATIONS under SYSTEM TESTS.
- Using scan tool, retrieve Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) from all modules. If any DTCs exist, perform appropriate test(s) under SYSTEM TESTS. See DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE IDENTIFICATION table. If no DTCs exist, repair by symptom. See SYMPTOM IDENTIFICATION table.
- After repairs are made, clear any DTCs using scan tool and perform appropriate verification test.
