Driver's Seat Heat Output Short To Ground (Laredo)

NOTE: Perform MEMORY/HEATED SEATS VERIFICATION TEST  under VERIFICATION TESTS after each repair.
  1. Using scan tool, erase DTCs. Start engine. Turn driver's seat heater on and operate in both HI and LO positions. Read DTCs. If DRIVER SEAT HEAT OUTPUT SHORT TO GROUND DTC is present, go to next step. If DRIVER SEAT HEAT OUTPUT SHORT TO GROUND DTC is not present, system is operating properly at this time. Perform MEMORY/HEATED SEATS VERIFICATION TEST  under VERIFICATION TESTS.
  2. Using scan tool, select BODY, MEMORY SEAT MODULE then READ DTCs. Turn ignition off. Raise seat to highest position to access seat connectors. Disconnect driver's heated seat cushion 4-pin connector located at rear of seat. Start engine. Turn driver's seat heater on and operate in both HI and LO positions. Read DTCs. If DRIVER SEAT HEAT OUTPUT SHORT TO GROUND DTC is present, go to next step. If DRIVER SEAT HEAT OUTPUT SHORT TO GROUND DTC is not present, go to step  5 .
  3. Turn ignition off. Disconnect Heated Seat Module (HSM) C2 connector located at front of seat. Using DVOM, measure resistance between HSM C2 connector terminals No. 2 (Black/Orange wire) and No. 15 (Black/Yellow wire). See Figure . If resistance is less than 1000 ohms, repair short to ground in HSM circuit. If resistance is greater than 1000 ohms, go to next step.
  4. Using DVOM, measure resistance between ground and HSM C2 connector terminal No. 2 (Black/Orange wire). If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair short to ground in Black/Orange wire between HSM and driver's heated seat cushion. If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, replace HSM. See MEMORY HEATED SEAT MODULE, HEATED SEAT MODULE OR MEMORY SEAT MODULE  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
  5. Using DVOM, measure resistance between ground and heated seat cushion connector (component side) terminal No. 1 (White wire). If resistance is less than 100 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is greater than 100 ohms, replace HSM. See MEMORY HEATED SEAT MODULE, HEATED SEAT MODULE OR MEMORY SEAT MODULE  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
  6. Disconnect driver's heated seat back 3-pin connector located at rear of seat. Using DVOM, measure resistance between ground and heated seat back connector (component side) terminal No. 1 (Brown wire). If resistance is less than 1000 ohms, replace driver's heated seat back. See SEAT BACK under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION in POWER SEATS - GRAND CHEROKEE article. If resistance is greater than 1000 ohms, go to next step.
  7. Using DVOM, measure resistance between ground and driver's heated seat back connector terminal No. 2 (Black/Yellow wire). If resistance is less than 1000 ohms, repair short to ground in Black/Yellow wire between driver's heated seat back and HSM. If resistance is greater than 1000 ohms, replace HSM. See MEMORY HEATED SEAT MODULE, HEATED SEAT MODULE OR MEMORY SEAT MODULE  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
