Test B: Keyless Entry System Inoperative
- If remote keyless entry diagnostic system check has been performed, go to next step. If remote keyless entry diagnostic system check has not be performed, perform REMOTE KEYLESS DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
- Press each button on transmitter one at a time. If keyless entry system does not operate properly, go to next step. If keyless entry system operates properly, check for intermittent and poor connections. See PRELIMINARY INSPECTION under TROUBLESHOOTING.
- Lock and unlock doors using power door lock switches. If power door locks operate properly, go to next step. If power door locks do not operate properly, repair power door lock system as necessary. See POWER DOOR LOCKS & TRUNK LID RELEASE - GRAND PRIX article.
- Operate trunk release using switch located in glove box. If trunk release operates properly, go to next step. If trunk release does not operate properly, repair trunk release system as necessary. See POWER DOOR LOCKS & TRUNK LID RELEASE - GRAND PRIX article.
- If trunk release is not the only inoperative keyless entry function, go to next step. If trunk release is the only inoperative keyless entry function, perform TEST C: TRUNK LID RELEASE FUNCTION INOPERATIVE USING TRANSMITTER .
- Using Keyless Entry Tester (J-43241), place transmitter on tester pad. Press each button on transmitter one at a time. If tone does not sound and Green light does not illuminate on tester as each button in pressed, go to next step. If tone sounds and Green light illuminates on tester as each button in pressed, go to step 11 .
- If none of the buttons on transmitter sounded tone and illuminated Green light on tester, go to next step. If any buttons on transmitter sounded tone and illuminated Green light on tester when pressed, go to step 10 .
- Replace transmitter battery. After battery replacement, go to next step.
- Place transmitter on keyless entry tester test pad. Press each button on transmitter one at a time. If tone does not sound and Green light does not illuminate on tester as each button in pressed, go to next step. If tone sounds and Green light illuminates on tester as each button in pressed, go to step 11 .
- Replace transmitter. Go to step 14 .
- Press PANIC button on transmitter. If panic function operates properly, go to next step. If panic function does not operate properly, go to step 14 .
- Synchronize transmitters. See REMOTE KEYLESS ENTRY TRANSMITTER SYNCHRONIZATION . If horn chirps to confirm synchronization has completed, go to next step. If horn does not chirp to confirm synchronization has completed, go to step 14 .
- Operate transmitter within range of vehicle. If all keyless entry functions do not operate properly, go to next step. If all keyless entry functions operate properly, go to step 27 .
- Program all transmitters. See TRANSMITTER PROGRAMMING under PROGRAMMING. If Body Control Module (BCM) does not chime to confirm transmitter programming has been completed, go to next step. If BCM chimes to confirm transmitter programming has been completed, go to step 27 .
- Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect Remote Control Door Lock Receiver (RCDLR) Black 6-pin harness connector. RCDLR is located behind right side of instrument panel, behind instrument panel inflatable restraint module. Connect a test light between ground and RCDLR harness connector terminal No. 5 (Orange wire). See Figure . If test light illuminates, go to next step. If test light does not illuminate, go to step 22 .
- Connect a test light between RCDLR harness connector terminals No. 5 (Orange wire) and No. 8 (Black wire). If test light illuminates, go to next step. If test light does not illuminate, go to step 23 .
- Disconnect test light. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Measure voltage between ground and RCDLR harness connector terminal No. 6 (Light Green wire). See Figure . If battery voltage exists, go to next step. If battery voltage does not exist, go to step 19 .
- Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Connect a test light between RCDLR harness connector terminals No. 6 (Light Green wire) and No. 8 (Black wire). If test light does not illuminate, go to step 20 . If test light illuminates, go to step 24 .
- Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect BCM 32-pin harness connector C2. BCM is located below left side of instrument, left of steering column. Check for open, high resistance or short to ground in Light Green wire between RCDLR harness connector terminal No. 6 and BCM harness connector C2 terminal C8. See Figure and Figure . If Light Green wire is okay, go to step 21 . If Light Green wire is not okay, repair as necessary. After repair, go to step 27 .
- Check for poor terminal contact at RCDLR connector. If terminal contact is okay, go to step 25 . If terminal contact is not okay, repair as necessary. After repair, go to step 27 .
- Check BCM connector C2 for poor terminal contact. If terminal contact is not okay, repair as necessary. After repair, go to step 26 . If terminal contact is okay, go to step 27 .
- Repair open, high resistance or short to ground in Orange wire between HVAC/RKE BATT fuse (10-amp) and RCDLR. After repair, go to step 27 .
- Repair open, high resistance or short to ground in Black wire between ground and RCDLR. Ground point is located behind instrument panel fuse block. After repair, go to step 27 .
- Repair short to voltage in Light Green wire between RCDLR and BCM. After repair, go to step 27 .
- Replace RCDLR. Program transmitters. See TRANSMITTER PROGRAMMING under PROGRAMMING. After repair, go to step 27 .
- Replace BCM with correct BCM type. See BODY CONTROL MODULES - GRAND PRIX article. After repair, go to step 27 .
- Operate system. Ensure symptom no longer exists. If symptom still exists, go to step 2 .
NOTE:
Ensure keyless entry transmitter is correct model for vehicle remote system. An incorrect transmitter may pass this test, but may not operate keyless entry system.
