Test C: Trunk Lid Release Function Inoperative Using Transmitter

NOTE: Trunk lid may also be referred to as rear compartment lid.
NOTE: Trunk lid release relay may also be referred to as rear compartment lid release relay.
  1. If remote keyless entry diagnostic system check has been performed, go to next step. If remote keyless entry diagnostic system check has not be performed, perform REMOTE KEYLESS DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
  2. Press TRUNK RELEASE button on transmitter. If trunk lid release does not operate, go to next step. If trunk lid release operates properly, check for intermittent and poor connections. See PRELIMINARY INSPECTION  under TROUBLESHOOTING.
  3. Operate trunk release from switch located in glove box. If trunk release operates properly, go to next step. If trunk release does not operate properly, repair trunk release system as necessary. See POWER DOOR LOCKS & TRUNK LID RELEASE- GRAND PRIX article.
  4. NOTE: Ensure keyless entry transmitter is correct model for vehicle keyless entry system. An incorrect transmitter may pass this test, but may not operate vehicles keyless entry system.
  5. Using Keyless Entry Tester (J-43241), place transmitter on tester pad. Press each button on transmitter one at a time. If tone does not sound and Green light does not illuminate on tester as each button in pressed, go to next step. If tone sounds and Green light illuminates on tester as each button in pressed, go to step  15 .
  6. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Remove trunk lid release relay, located behind left side of instrument panel. Connect a test light between ground and trunk lid release relay harness connector terminal A1 (Light Green wire). See Fig 1 . If test light illuminates, go to next step. If test light does not illuminate, go to step  12 .

  7. Connect a test light between trunk lid release relay harness connector terminals A1 (Light Green wire) and C2 (Brown wire). Press TRUNK RELEASE button on transmitter. If test light illuminates, go to next step. If test light does not illuminate, go to step  9 .
  8. Connect a test light between ground and trunk lid release relay harness connector terminal C1 (Light Green wire). If test light illuminates, go to next step. If test light does not illuminate, go to step  13 .
  9. Connect a fused (10-amp) jumper wire between trunk lid release relay harness connector terminal A2 and trunk lid release actuator solenoid connector Black/White wire terminal. See WIRING DIAGRAMS  . If trunk lid release operates, go to step  10 . If trunk lid release does not operate, go to step  14 .
  10. Check for open or high resistance is Light Green wire between BCM harness connector C2 terminal C8 and trunk lid release relay socket terminal A1. See Figure and Fig 1 . If Light Green wire is okay, go to step  11 . If Light Green wire is not okay, repair as necessary. After repair, go to step  18 .
  11. Check trunk lid release relay connector for poor terminal contact. If terminal contact is okay, go to step  16 . If terminal contact is not okay, repair as necessary. After repair, go to step  18 .
  12. Check RCDLR connector for poor terminal contact. If terminal contact is okay, go to step  17 . If terminal contact is not okay, repair as necessary. After repair, go to step  18 .
  13. Repair open or high resistance in Light Green wire between BCM and trunk lid release relay. After repair, go to step  18 .
  14. Repair open or high resistance in Light Green wire between trunk lid release relay and trunk lid release switch. After repair, go to step  18 .
  15. Repair open or high resistance in Black/White wire between trunk lid release relay and trunk lid release actuator. After repair, go to step  18 .
  16. Replace transmitter. Program all transmitters. See TRANSMITTER PROGRAMMING  under PROGRAMMING. After repair, go to step  18 .
  17. Replace trunk lid release relay. After repair, go to step  18 .
  18. Replace RCDLR. Program all transmitters. See TRANSMITTER PROGRAMMING  under PROGRAMMING. After repair, go to next step.
  19. Operate system. Ensure symptom no longer exists. If symptom still exists, go to step  2 .
