Shift Control Module Removal/Installation: Notes

  1. Shift the shift lever to the neutral position.
  2. Disconnect the negative battery terminal. (See NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL DISCONNECTION/CONNECTION .)
  3. Remove the plug hole plate. (See PLUG HOLE PLATE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
  4. Remove the following parts as a single unit. (See INTAKE-AIR SYSTEM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
    • Air cleaner cover
    • Air cleaner element
    • Fresh-air duct
    • Air cleaner case
    • Air hose
    • Resonance chamber
  5. Remove the battery. (See BATTERY REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [SKYACTIV-G 2.5 (WITHOUT CYLINDER DEACTIVATION)] .)
  6. Remove the PCM component. (See PCM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
  7. Remove the battery tray. (See BATTERY REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [SKYACTIV-G 2.5 (WITHOUT CYLINDER DEACTIVATION)] .)
  8. Pull the lock pin in the direction of the arrow shown in the figure below and release the control cable ends (manual transaxle side) lock.
    CAUTION:
    • Pull the lock pin within the range shown in the figure (Control Cable End From MTX). If the lock pin is pulled excessively, it could deform and no longer function.

  9. Disconnect the control cable ends (manual transaxle side) from the manual transaxle. (See Control Cable Ends (Transaxle Side) Installation Note .)
  10. Press the clip tabs shown in the figure below, and disconnect the control cables from the control cable bracket.

  11. Remove the neutral switch. (See NEUTRAL SWITCH REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
  12. Remove the detent ball pin in the order shown in the figure below.

    COMPONENT DESCRIPTION

    1 Plug
    2 Gasket
    3 Spring
    4 Detent ball pin
  13. Remove the back-up light switch. (See BACK-UP LIGHT SWITCH REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
  14. Remove the shift control module in the order shown in the figure below.

    COMPONENT DESCRIPTION

    1 Breather
    2 Shift control module
    (See Shift Control Module Installation Note .)
    3 O-ring
  15. Install in the reverse order of removal.
