Test F: Doors Do Not Lock Or Unlock Using Remote Transmitter

NOTE: If vehicle is within 1/2 a mile of radio or television towers, operating range of remote transmitter(s) will be reduced.
NOTE: If vehicle has more than one remote transmitter, perform test on each one.
  1. Use driver's side door lock control switch to lock and unlock all doors. If all door locks operate normally, go to next step. If door locks do not operate normally, diagnose by symptom. See SYMPTOM INDEX  table.
  2. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Connect New Generation Star (NGS) tester to Data Link Connector (DLC). DLC is located below left side of instrument panel, right of steering column. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Perform Central Security Module (CSM) self-test. If no DTCs are retrieved, go to next step. If DTC B2276 or B2425 is retrieved, go to TEST J: REMOTE KEYLESS ENTRY TRANSMITTER OUT OF SYNCHRONIZATION .
  3. While standing 10 ft. from vehicle, press each button on remote transmitter(s). If system does not respond appropriately for each button pressed, go to next step. If system responds appropriately for each button pressed on remote transmitter(s), go to step  11.
  4. Stand next to or sit inside of vehicle. Press each button on remote transmitter(s). If system does not respond appropriately for each button pressed, go to next step. If system responds appropriately for each button pressed on remote transmitter(s), go to step  10.
  5. Using NGS tester, go to CSM then FUNCTION TESTS and TRANSMITTER TIC/DATA. If NGS tester displays at least one remote transmitter code next to TIC 1, go to next step. If NGS tester does not display any transmitter codes by TIC 1, program all transmitters into system. See REMOTE TRANSMITTER  under PROGRAMMING.
  6. Monitor CSM function test TRANSMITTER TIC/DATA, while pressing remote transmitter No. 1 LOCK and UNLOCK buttons. If 8-digit alpha-numeric code does not appear for LAST TIC RECEIVED and LAST DATA RECEIVED, does not match button pressed, go to next step. If 8-digit alpha-numeric code appears for LAST TIC RECEIVED and LAST DATA RECEIVED, matches button pressed, go to step  8.
  7. Using NGS tester, monitor CSM function test TRANSMITTER TIC/DATA, while pressing remote transmitter No. 2 LOCK and UNLOCK buttons. If 8-digit alpha-numeric code does not appear for LAST TIC RECEIVED and LAST DATA RECEIVED, does not match button pressed, go to next step. If 8-digit alpha-numeric code appears for LAST TIC RECEIVED and LAST DATA RECEIVED, matches button pressed, check remote transmitter batteries and replace as necessary. If batteries are okay, reprogram remote transmitters and retest system. See REMOTE TRANSMITTER  under PROGRAMMING.
  8. Using NGS tester, monitor CSM function test TRANSMITTER TIC/DATA. If LAST TIC RECEIVED is one of TICs recorded in step 6)  , go to next step. If LAST TIC RECEIVED is not one of TICs recorded in step 6)  , program remote transmitters. See REMOTE TRANSMITTER  under PROGRAMMING.
  9. Monitor CSM function test TRANSMITTER TIC/DATA. If LAST DATA RECEIVED is one of TICs recorded in step 6)  , go to step  11. If LAST DATA RECEIVED is not one of TICs recorded in step 6)  , program remote transmitters. See REMOTE TRANSMITTER  under PROGRAMMING.
  10. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect negative battery cable. Disconnect CSM harness connector C256. CSM is located behind left side of instrument panel. Connect negative battery cable. Measure voltage between ground and CSM harness connector C256 terminal No. 25 (Red/Yellow wire). If voltage does not exist, check remote transmitter(s) batteries and replace as necessary. If remote transmitter(s) are still inoperative, program remote transmitter(s). See REMOTE TRANSMITTER  under PROGRAMMING. If remote transmitter(s) are still inoperative, replace remote transmitter(s).
  11. Disconnect all CSM harness connectors. Inspect harness connectors for corrosion and pushed out pins. Connect all CSM harness connectors, ensuring they are connected correctly. Operate system and verify if problem is still exists. If problem is still exists, replace CSM. See CENTRAL SECURITY MODULE  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If problem does not exist, system is operating correctly at this time. Clear DTCs and perform CSM self-test.
