Horn Relay Circuit

WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 8 other vehicles, including the 2003 Dodge Intrepid, 2003 Chrysler Intrepid, 2003 Chrysler Concorde, 2003 Chrysler 300M, and 2002 Dodge Intrepid. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Remove horn relay from junction block located under left side of instrument panel. Connect ohmmeter between horn relay terminal No. 72 in junction block and ground. See Fig 1 . When horn switch is pressed, continuity should exist. When horn switch is not pressed, continuity should not exist. If continuity is not as specified, go to next step. If continuity is as specified, go to step  3 .
  2. Test horn switch. See HORN SWITCH  under COMPONENT TESTS. If horn switch is okay, repair open in Black/Red wire or clockspring as necessary. If horn switch is not okay, replace horn switch. See HORN SWITCH  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
  3. Check for voltage at horn relay terminals No. 73 and 74 in junction block. If battery voltage does not exist at both terminals, go to step  6 . If battery voltage exists at both terminals, go to next step.
  4. Connect a jumper wire between horn relay terminals No. 74 and 75 in junction block. If horns sound, replace horn relay. If horns do not sound, go to next step.
  5. Disconnect horn connector. Check continuity in Dark Green/Red wire between relay terminal No. 75 in junction block and horn connector. If continuity exists, check horns. See HORN CIRCUIT  . If continuity does not exist, repair open in Dark Green/Red wire.
  6. Inspect fuse No. 18 (20-amp) in junction block. If fuse is okay, go to next step. If fuse is blown, repair short circuit. See WIRING DIAGRAMS  .
  7. Check for voltage at fuse No. 18. If battery voltage exists, repair open in junction block after fuse No. 18. If battery voltage does not exist, repair power distribution circuit supply to fuse No. 18. See POWER DISTRIBUTION in appropriate SYSTEM WIRING DIAGRAMS article in ELECTRICAL.
