Gearshift Mechanism, Checking

Overview:

GEARSHIFT MECHANISM, CHECKING  

Selector lever in "P" and the ignition turned on:

-- Do not press the brake pedal.

-- Press the brake pedal and hold it down.

The selector lever is in "N" and the ignition is turned on:

-- Do not press the brake pedal.

-- Press the brake pedal.

Selector lever in "D" and the ignition is on:

-- Move the selector lever into the "tiptronic gate".

If the specified values are not obtained:

-- Perform the"Guided Fault Finding"  with a Vehicle Diagnostic Tester.

-- Adjust the selector lever cable. Vehicles through 11.2005, refer to SELECTOR LEVER CABLE, ADJUSTING , vehicles from 11.2005, refer to SELECTOR LEVER CABLE, ADJUSTING .

-- Locking button on selector lever handle, checking, refer to GEARSHIFT MECHANISM, CHECKING .

-- Check ignition key removal lock.

GEARSHIFT MECHANISM, CHECKING 

-- To reach "ignition on", turn the key to right.

-- Press the brake pedal and hold it down.

-- Turn off the ignition.

-- Move the selector lever into "P".

-- Remove ignition key.

If the ignition key lock does not function as described, follow the "Guided Fault Finding"  with a Vehicle Diagnostic Tester.

GEARSHIFT MECHANISM, CHECKING 

Make sure locking button moves easily.

If the specified values are not obtained:

-- Check whether selector lever handle is installed correctly: Vehicles through 11.2005, refer to SELECTOR LEVER HANDLE , vehicles from 11.2005, refer to SELECTOR LEVER HANDLE .

-- Check whether selector rod or selector lever is bent.

Function Test:

Locking button on selector lever handle must be pressed for the following shifts. If it is not pressed, the selector lever cannot be shifted into the specified position.

If the specified values are not obtained:

-- Check whether selector lever handle is installed correctly: Vehicles through 11.2005, refer to SELECTOR LEVER HANDLE , vehicles from 11.2005, refer to SELECTOR LEVER HANDLE .

-- Follow the "Guided Fault Finding"  with a Vehicle Diagnostic Tester and check the Shift Lock Solenoid -N110-.

-- Adjust the selector lever cable. Vehicles through 11.2005, refer to SELECTOR LEVER CABLE, ADJUSTING , vehicles from 11.2005, refer to SELECTOR LEVER CABLE, ADJUSTING .
