Signal Too High. Intermittent Fault (2001-2004) >> Signal Too High. Intermittent Fault >> Checking the Relay

Checking the Relay

Check that the relay is securely connected and not defective. Check for contact resistance and oxidation. Check for loose connections.

The following applies only in the event of an open-circuit in the cable:

HINT: The fault may have caused by contact resistance, oxidation or loose connections in the supply to the relay. The voltage must be 12 V at both terminals #1 and #5 for relay 2/91. For relay 2/90 the voltage must be 12 V at terminal #1. Check fuse 11B/13 in the integrated relay/fusebox in the engine compartment in particular.

Using the table below, check the cable between the central electronic module (CEM) and the windshield wiper relay. Check for an intermittent short-circuit to supply voltage. Check for contact resistance and oxidation.

Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC)  Control module  Relay
CEM-8F23 #13A #2 (2/91)
CEM-8F26 #14A #2 (2/90)

Also check the connector. Check for contact resistance and oxidation. Check for an intermittent short-circuit to supply voltage.
