SET- Switch Check (Response Code 213)

  1. Response Code 213 is obtained when cruise control SET- button is depressed. If code is obtained, go to Brakelight Switch Check (Response Code 132) . If code cannot be obtained, check for other response codes. If Code 113, 123 or 131 is present, go to step  3. If Codes 113, 123 or 131 are not present, go to next step.
  2. Check cruise control fuse No. 19 located in fuse box on left side of instrument panel. Replace as necessary. If fuse is okay, remove upper and lower steering column covers. Disconnect cruise control switch connector. Turn ignition on. Connect voltmeter between cruise control switch connector terminal No. 2 and ground. See Figure. If battery voltage is not present, check wiring between fuse box and cruise control switch. If battery voltage is present, go to next step.
  3. Connect cruise control switch connector, if disconnected. Connect voltmeter (backprobe) between cruise control switch connector terminal No. 4 and ground. See Figure. Turn ignition on. Turn cruise control main switch on. Press SET button to - position. If battery voltage is present, go to next step. If battery voltage is not present, check cruise control switch connector for poor terminal contact. Repeat voltage check between cruise control switch connector terminal No. 4 and ground. If voltmeter displays battery voltage when SET button is pressed to - position, go to next step. If voltmeter does not display battery voltage when SET button is pressed to - position, replace cruise control switch.
  4. Remove cruise control unit. Connect voltmeter between ground and cruise control unit base terminal 8E. See Figure. Turn ignition on. Turn cruise control main switch on. Zero volts should be present without SET button pressed and battery voltage should be present with SET button in - position. If voltage is as described, check cruise control unit connector terminal contact. If terminal contact is okay, replace cruise control unit. If voltage is not as described, repair wiring between cruise control switch and cruise control unit base terminal 8E. See WIRING DIAGRAMS .
