Brakelight Switch Check (Response Code 132)

  1. Response Code 132 is obtained when brake pedal is depressed with cruise control main switch in ON position. If code is obtained, go to Park/Neutral Switch Circuit Disengagement (Response Code 223) . If code cannot be obtained, step on brake pedal. If brakelights do not come on, go to next step. If brakelights come on, go to step  4.
  2. Check cruise control fuse No. 3 located in fuse box on left side of instrument panel. Replace as necessary. If fuse is okay, connect voltmeter (backprobe) between brakelight switch connector terminal No. 1 and ground. See Fig 1. If battery voltage is present, go to next step. If battery voltage is not present, repair open Green/Yellow wire between fuse No. 3 and brakelight switch connector terminal No. 1.
  3. Connect voltmeter (backprobe) between brakelight switch connector terminal No. 2 and ground. Step on brake pedal. If battery voltage is present, repair brakelight system as necessary. See EXTERIOR LIGHTS article. If battery voltage is not present, ensure voltage supply is present at brakelight switch. If voltage supply is present, replace brakelight switch.
  4. Ensure ignition is off. Disconnect cruise control unit. Measure voltage between cruise control unit base terminal 6B and ground. See Figure. If about zero volts are present, go to next step. If more than zero volts are present, check wiring between brakelight switch and cruise control unit for a short to voltage. See WIRING DIAGRAMS .
  5. Disconnect brakelight switch. Measure resistance of Yellow/Brown wire between brakelight switch connector terminal No. 2 and cruise control unit base terminal 6B. If resistance is about zero ohms, check connectors for intermittent connection and retest. If resistance is more than zero ohms, repair open Yellow/Brown wire.
