Central Locking System Remote Control Inoperable

  1. Ensure ignition is off. Remove fuses No. 9 and 13. If fuses are blown, check for temporary overload or fault in central locking system. Install new fuse(s) and check if central locking system works manually using keys. Go to next step. If fuses are okay, turn ignition on. Connect voltmeter between each fuse holder voltage supply terminal and ground. If battery voltage is present, go to next step. If battery voltage is not present, check for open circuit or short circuit in battery voltage supply wire.
  2. Ensure ignition is off and fuses are in place. Close all doors. Check if central locking system can be operated using key in driver's and passenger's door. If central locking system operates, go to next step. If central locking system still does not operate, go to appropriate CENTRAL LOCKING SYSTEM COMPLETELY INOPERABLE.
  3. Ensure ignition is off. Disconnect receiver module 5-pin connector. See Fig 1 . Measure resistance between 5-pin connector terminal No. 1 and ground. If ohmmeter reads about zero ohms, go to next step. If ohmmeter does not read about zero ohms, check for open or short circuit to voltage in receiver module ground wire between 5-pin connector terminal No. 1 and ground. Repair as necessary.

  4. Ensure ignition is off and receiver module 5-pin connector is disconnected. Connect voltmeter between 5-pin connector terminals No. 1 and 5. See Fig 1 . If voltmeter reads battery voltage, go to next step. If voltmeter does not read battery voltage, check for open or short circuit to ground in receiver module voltage supply lead. If wire is okay, replace receiver module.
  5. Ensure ignition is off and receiver module 5-pin connector is disconnected. Connect voltmeter between 5-pin connector terminals No. 1 and 4. See Fig 1 . Voltmeter should read about zero volts. Turn ignition to position I. Connect voltmeter between 5-pin connector terminals No. 1 and 4. If voltmeter reads battery voltage, go to next step. If voltmeter does not read battery voltage, check for open or short circuit in ignition supply lead at 5-pin connector terminal No. 4.
  6. Ensure ignition is off and receiver module 5-pin connector is disconnected. Remove central locking relay. Connect ohmmeter between 5-pin connector terminal No. 3 and relay connector terminal ATR. See Figure or Figure . Ohmmeter should read about zero ohms. Connect ohmmeter between 5-pin connector terminals No. 1 and 3. Ohmmeter should read infinite resistance. Connect voltmeter between 5-pin connector terminals No. 1 and 3. Voltmeter should read zero volts. If readings are to specification, go to next step. If readings are not to specification, check for open or short circuit in receiver module signal lead between 5-pin connector terminal No. 3 and central locking relay connector terminal ATR.
  7. Ensure ignition is off. Reconnect receiver module 5-pin connector. Reinstall central locking relay. Remove battery from transmitter. Check battery with voltmeter. Voltmeter reading should be minimum 2.8 volts. If battery voltage is to specification, go to next step. If battery voltage is not to specification, replace battery. Test transmitter by pressing LOCK and UNLOCK buttons. If central locking system still does not operate, go to next step.
  8. Ensure ignition is off. Reprogram receiver module. See RECEIVER MODULE PROGRAMMING  . Test transmitter by pressing LOCK and UNLOCK buttons. If system still does not operate, go to next step.
  9. Ensure ignition is off. Remove central locking relay. Connect voltmeter between central locking relay connector terminals ATR and No. 31. See Figure . Press LOCK button on transmitter. If voltmeter does not show a pulse greater than zero volts, go to next step. If voltmeter does show a pulse greater than zero volts, test transmitter by pressing LOCK and UNLOCK buttons. If central locking system still does not operate, go to step 11).
  10. Turn ignition off. Replace central locking relay. Install new transmitter. Reprogram receiver module. See RECEIVER MODULE PROGRAMMING  . Test transmitter by pressing LOCK and UNLOCK buttons. If central locking system still does not operate, go to next step.
  11. Turn ignition off. Install new receiver module. Reprogram receiver module. See RECEIVER MODULE PROGRAMMING  . Test transmitter by pressing LOCK and UNLOCK buttons. If central locking system still does not operate, see step 27) under appropriate CENTRAL LOCKING SYSTEM COMPLETELY INOPERABLE.
