Transmission Control Cable ASSY (ATM): Replacement

  1. DISCONNECT BATTERY NEGATIVE TERMINAL 
  2. REMOVE INSTRUMENT PANEL SAFETY PAD SUB-ASSY (See step 41 on  REPLACEMENT  ) 
  3. REMOVE AIR CONDITIONING RADIATOR ASSY (See step 21 on  OVERHAUL  ) 
  4. REMOVE AIR BAG ECU ASSY (See  REPLACEMENT  ) 
  5. REMOVE AIR CLEANER ASSY (See step 11 on  REPLACEMENT - 2AZ-FE  or step 16 on  REPLACEMENT - 1MZ-FE/3MZ-FE  ) 
  6. REMOVE INTAKE AIR CONNECTOR SUB-ASSY (See  REPLACEMENT - 2AZ-FE  or  REPLACEMENT - 1MZ-FE/3MZ-FE  ) 
  7. REMOVE EXHAUST PIPE ASSY (See  REPLACEMENT  ) 
  8. REMOVE TRANSMISSION CONTROL CABLE ASSY 
    1. Remove the 2 bolts and disconnect shift cable grommet retainer No. 2.

    2. Remove the nut from the control shaft lever.
    3. Disconnect the control cable from the control shaft lever.

    4. Remove the clip and disconnect the control cable from the control cable bracket.

    5. Disconnect the control cable from the control cable clamp.

    6. Disconnect the floor shift cable from the transmission floor shift assy.
    7. Pull out the control cable from the body.
    8. Remove the shift cable grommet retainer No. 2.

  9. INSTALL TRANSMISSION CONTROL CABLE ASSY 
    1. Put in the control cable to the body.
    2. Install the shift cable grommet retainer No. 2 to the floor shift cable.
    3. Install the floor shift cable as shown in the illustration.

      HINT:

      • Install it with the uneven surface facing to up.
      • Fit the claws securely.

    4. Connect the control cable to the control cable clamp.

    5. Install the control cable and a new clip to the bracket.

    6. Temporarily install the control cable to the control shaft lever with nuts.

    7. Install the shift cable grommet retainer No. 2 with the 2 bolts.

      Torque: 4.9 N.m (50 kgf.cm, 43 in.lbf)

  10. INSTALL EXHAUST PIPE ASSY (See step 13 on  REPLACEMENT  ) 
  11. INSTALL AIR BAG ECU ASSY (See  REPLACEMENT  ) 
  12. INSTALL AIR CONDITIONING RADIATOR ASSY (See  REPLACEMENT - 2AZ-FE  or  REPLACEMENT - 1MZ-FE/3MZ-FE  ) 
  13. ADJUST SHIFT LEVER POSITION (See  ADJUSTMENT  ) 
  14. INSPECT SHIFT LEVER POSITION (See  ADJUSTMENT  ) 
  15. INSTALL INTAKE AIR CONNECTOR SUB-ASSY (See  REPLACEMENT - 2AZ-FE  or  REPLACEMENT - 1MZ-FE/3MZ-FE  ) 
  16. INSTALL AIR CLEANER ASSY (See step 137 on  REPLACEMENT - 2AZ-FE  or step 129 on  REPLACEMENT - 1MZ-FE/3MZ-FE  ) 
  17. INSTALL BATTERY NEGATIVE TERMINAL
