Instrument Panel: Removal
HINT:
Tape the screwdriver tip before using it to pry parts.
- REMOVE STEERING WHEEL PAD AND STEERING WHEEL (See REMOVAL in TILT STEERING COLUMN article.)
- REMOVE DOOR SCUFF PLATES
- REMOVE COWL SIDE TRIMS
- REMOVE NO. 1 LOWER FINISH PANEL
- Remove the bolt, screw and DLC3.
- Using a screwdriver, remove the No. 1 lower finish panel.
- REMOVE INSTRUMENT PANEL LOWER PAD INSERT
- REMOVE COLUMN COVERS
Remove the 3 screws and upper and lower column covers.
- REMOVE SPIRAL CABLE (See REMOVAL in TILT STEERING COLUMN article.)
- REMOVE WIPER AND WASHER SWITCH AND LIGHT CONTROL SWITCH AND HEADLIGHT DIMMER SWITCH (See REMOVAL in TILT STEERING COLUMN article.)
- REMOVE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER FINISH PANEL
Using a screwdriver, remove the cluster finish panel.
- REMOVE COMBINATION METER
- Remove the 3 screws and combination meter.
- Disconnect the connectors.
- REMOVE GLOVE COMPARTMENT DOOR
- Open the glove compartment door.
- Push both sides of the glove compartment door inward and pull it out.
- REMOVE PASSENGER AIRBAG ASSEMBLY (See PASSENGER-SIDE AIR BAG MODULE in AIR BAG RESTRAINT SYSTEMS article.)
- REMOVE PASSENGER AIRBAG MANUAL ON-OFF SWITCH (See PASSENGER-SIDE AIR BAG CUT-OFF SWITCH in AIR BAG RESTRAINT SYSTEMS article.)
- REMOVE HOOD RELEASE LEVER
- REMOVE CENTER INSTRUMENT CLUSTER FINISH PANEL
- Remove the 4 knobs and 2 screws.
- Using a screwdriver, remove the center cluster finish panel.
- Disconnect the clock connector from the clock.
- REMOVE ASH RECEPTACLE OUTER CASE AND STEREO PLAYER FINISH PANEL
- Remove the ash receptacle box.
- Remove the 2 bolts ash receptacle retainer.
- Using a screwdriver, remove the ash receptacle outer case.
- Using a screwdriver, remove the stereo finish panel.
- REMOVE NO. 1 AND NO. 2 INSTRUMENT PANEL BRACE OUTER COVERS AND NO.3 INSTRUMENT PANEL BRACE INNER COVERS
- Using a screwdriver, remove the No. 2 instrument panel brace outer covers and No. 3 instrument panel brace inner covers.
- Remove the 4 screws and No. 1 instrument panel brace outer covers.
- Remove the 4 screws and stereo.
- DISCONNECT HEATER CONTROL CABLES (See REMOVAL
).

NOTE: When the air mix damper control cables are disconnected, be careful not to bend the cables. - REMOVE HEATER CONTROL ASSEMBLY
- Remove the 4 screws and control assembly.
- Disconnect the 2 connectors.
- REMOVE STEERING COLUMN (See REMOVAL )
- REMOVE FRONT PILLAR GARNISHES
- Remove the 2 screws and removable roof hook.
- Using a screwdriver, remove the front pillar garnish.
- Employ the same manner described above to the other side.
- REMOVE INSTRUMENT PANEL
- Remove the nut, screw and No. 1 instrument panel lower mount bracket.
- Remove the 2 screws and center instrument panel bracket.
- Disconnect the connectors.
- Disengage the wire harness clamps.
- Remove the 5 bolts, nut, screw and instrument panel.
- REMOVE NO. 1 AND NO. 2 BRACES
- REMOVE REINFORCEMENT
- Disconnect the connector.
- Disengage the wire harness clamps.
- Remove the 3 bolts, 5 nuts and reinforcement.
- REMOVE CONSOLE BOX
- M/T:
Remove the shift knob.
- SMT:
Remove the shift hole bezel.
- Remove the side brake cover.
- Remove the 4 screws and console box.
- Disconnect the power window switch connector.
- M/T:
- REMOVE INSTRUMENT PANEL WIRE
- REMOVE NO. 1 HEATER TO REGISTER DUCT
- REMOVE NO. 2 HEATER TO REGISTER DUCT
- REMOVE NO. 3 HEATER TO REGISTER DUCT
- REMOVE NO. 1 INSTRUMENT PANEL RESISTER
- REMOVE NO. 2 INSTRUMENT PANEL RESISTER
- REMOVE NO. 3 INSTRUMENT PANEL RESISTER
- REMOVE LIGHT CONTROL RHEOSTAT
- REMOVE WINDOW LOCK SWITCH
- REMOVE CONTROL MIRROR SWITCH
