Key Unlock Warning Switch Circuit
CAUTION:
If Engine Control Module (ECM) replacement is instructed in following test, always ensure ECM electrical connectors and ground circuits are okay. For ECM ground circuits, see ENGINE PERFORMANCE article in WIRING DIAGRAMS. If either are defective, repair and repeat testing to confirm ECM malfunction.
- Check key unlock warning switch operation. See KEY UNLOCK WARNING SWITCH under COMPONENT TESTS. Key unlock warning switch may also be referred to as unlock warning switch. If key unlock switch is okay, go to next step. If key unlock switch is defective, replace key unlock switch. See KEY UNLOCK WARNING SWITCH under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
- The wiring circuit between ECM and key unlock warning switch should be checked. Ensure ignition is off. Remove necessary components for access to ECM. ECM is located behind glove box and contains 5 electrical connectors. See Figure. Disconnect ECM electrical connector E6. See Figure.
- Disconnect electrical connector at key unlock warning switch. Key unlock warning switch is located on upper steering column bracket, near ignition lock cylinder and contains a 4-pin electrical connector. See Figure.
- Using ohmmeter, check for continuity between terminal No. 2 (Blue wire) at key unlock warning switch electrical connector and terminal No. 23 (Blue wire) at ECM electrical connector E6. See Figure and Fig 1 . If continuity exists, go to next step. If continuity does not exist, repair open in Blue wire or electrical connector between key unlock warning switch and ECM.
- Replace ECM. See ENGINE CONTROL MODULE under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Ensure ignition keys are registered to the ECM. See IGNITION KEY REGISTRATION under PROGRAMMING.
