Fuel Pump: Removal

  1. Relieve fuel pressure in fuel feed line. See FUEL SYSTEM PRESSURE RELEASE  . Disconnect negative cable at battery.
  2. Disconnect fuel level gauge, fuel pump and tank pressure sensor (EVAP-II vehicle) lead wire couplers and release harness clamp after removing rear bumper cover.
  3. Remove fuel tank filler hose cover. Then disconnect filler hose and breather hose from fuel tank. See Fig 1 . Remove fuel tank inlet valve.
  4. Due to absence of fuel tank drain plug, drain fuel tank by pumping fuel out through fuel tank filler. Use hand operated pump device to drain fuel tank.
  5. Disconnect fuel filter inlet pipe from filter. Disconnect fuel vapor hose and return hose from pipes.
  6. Remove fuel tank and protector from vehicle. Remove fuel pump from fuel tank. See Fig 2 .
