Ignition Key Lock: Replacement

CAUTION:
  • Before handling the airbag system components, refer to "CAUTION" of "General Description" in "AIRBAG SYSTEM". Ref. to AIRBAG SYSTEM>GENERAL DESCRIPTION>CAUTION .
  • Do not allow harness and connectors to interfere or get tangled up with other parts.
  1. Disconnect the ground terminal from the battery sensor, and wait for at least 60 seconds before starting work. Ref. to REPAIR CONTENTS>NOTE>BATTERY .
  2. Remove the driver's airbag module. Ref. to AIRBAG SYSTEM>DRIVER'S AIRBAG MODULE>REMOVAL .
  3. Remove the steering wheel assembly. Ref. to POWER ASSISTED SYSTEM (POWER STEERING)>STEERING WHEEL>REMOVAL .
  4. Remove the cover LWR driver. Ref. to EXTERIOR/INTERIOR TRIM>INSTRUMENT PANEL LOWER COVER>REMOVAL .
  5. Remove the knee airbag module. Ref. to AIRBAG SYSTEM>KNEE AIRBAG MODULE>REMOVAL .
  6. Remove the duct foot driver. Ref. to AIR CONDITIONER>AIR VENT DUCT>REMOVAL>FOOT DUCT .
  7. Remove the universal joint assembly steering. Ref. to POWER ASSISTED SYSTEM (POWER STEERING)>UNIVERSAL JOINT>REMOVAL .
    CAUTION: To prevent damage to the universal joint assembly steering and improper steering effort, make sure to remove the universal joint assembly steering.
  8. Remove the column assembly steering. Ref. to POWER ASSISTED SYSTEM (POWER STEERING)>STEERING COLUMN>REMOVAL .
  9. Remove the ignition key lock.
    1. Secure the column assembly steering in a vise.
    2. Use the reverse tap and drill to remove the set bolt.
    3. Remove the ignition key lock.

  10. Install the ignition key lock.
    1. Secure the ignition key lock to the column assembly steering.
      NOTE: When installing the ignition key lock, confirm that the fitting portion of the ignition key lock is properly engaged with the opening portion of the column shaft.

    2. Use new set bolts. Tighten the bolt until the bolt head is broken (bolt head wrenched off).
  11. Install the column assembly steering. Ref. to POWER ASSISTED SYSTEM (POWER STEERING)>STEERING COLUMN>INSTALLATION .
  12. Install the universal joint assembly steering. Ref. to POWER ASSISTED SYSTEM (POWER STEERING)>UNIVERSAL JOINT>INSTALLATION .
    CAUTION:
    • Always install the universal joint assembly steering after installing the steering column to avoid damage to the universal joint assembly steering.
    • Be sure to follow the tightening order and tightening torque of the universal joint assembly steering to avoid the steering effort from becoming heavy.

      After confirming that the steering column position is in the neutral position, tighten the universal joint assembly steering.

    • Place the tilt lever in the lock position after the steering column is adjusted.
  13. Install the duct foot driver. Ref. to AIR CONDITIONER>AIR VENT DUCT>INSTALLATION>FOOT DUCT .
  14. Install the knee airbag module. Ref. to AIRBAG SYSTEM>KNEE AIRBAG MODULE>INSTALLATION .
  15. Install the cover LWR driver. Ref. to EXTERIOR/INTERIOR TRIM>INSTRUMENT PANEL LOWER COVER>INSTALLATION .
  16. Align the center position of the steering roll connector. Ref. to AIRBAG SYSTEM>ROLL CONNECTOR>ADJUSTMENT .
  17. Install the steering wheel assembly. Ref. to POWER ASSISTED SYSTEM (POWER STEERING)>STEERING WHEEL>INSTALLATION .
  18. Install the driver's airbag module. Ref. to AIRBAG SYSTEM>DRIVER'S AIRBAG MODULE>INSTALLATION .
  19. Connect the ground terminal to battery sensor. Ref. to REPAIR CONTENTS>NOTE>BATTERY .
  20. Perform the VDC sensor midpoint setting mode. Ref. to VEHICLE DYNAMICS CONTROL (VDC)>VDC CONTROL MODULE AND HYDRAULIC CONTROL UNIT (VDCCM & H/U)>ADJUSTMENT>VDC SENSOR MIDPOINT SETTING MODE .
  21. Perform the END STOP learning. Ref. to POWER STEERING (DIAGNOSTICS)>INSPECTION MODE>PROCEDURE>INSPECTION MODE B .
