Automatic Transmission Fluid: Replacement
- Remove the under cover front and the under cover COMPL front T/M. Ref. to EXTERIOR/INTERIOR TRIM>FRONT UNDER COVER>REMOVAL .
- Remove the drain plug (A) to drain ATF.
- Temporarily install the drain plug (A).NOTE: The drain plug gasket is replaced with a new part in step 29.
- Remove the refill plug (B).
- Use a hexagon socket wrench (5 mm) to remove the overflow plug (C).
- Fill the ATF from the refill plug hole and let it flow out of the overflow tube.CAUTION:
- Always use specified ATF. ATF other than specified ATF will cause malfunction.
- Slowly fill the ATF.
Adding the ATF rapidly can cause the ATF to hit internal parts and splash around resulting in the ATF flowing out of the refill plug hole.
Preparation items:
ATF: Ref. to AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION>GENERAL DESCRIPTION>SPECIFICATION>ATF .
- Wait until the ATF stops flowing and is only dripping.
- Use a hexagon socket wrench (5 mm) to temporarily install the overflow plug.NOTE: Replace the overflow plug gasket with a new part after adjusting the level of ATF.
- Fill ATF from the refill plug hole.
Preparation items:
ATF: Ref. to AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION>GENERAL DESCRIPTION>SPECIFICATION>ATF .
Filling amount:
ATF: Ref. to AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION>GENERAL DESCRIPTION>SPECIFICATION>ATF .
If the required amount of ATF was not filled successfully, perform the following.
- Temporarily install the refill plug (A).NOTE: Replace the refill plug O-ring with a new part after adjusting the level of ATF.
- Start the engine.
- Operate the select lever in P → R → N → D → M → D → N → R → P to circulate ATF in the transmission.
- Idle the engine for 30 seconds.
- Turn the ignition switch to OFF.
- Remove the refill plug.
- Fill with ATF again.
- Temporarily install the refill plug (A).
- Temporarily install the refill plug.NOTE: Replace the refill plug O-ring with a new part after adjusting the level of ATF.
- Start the engine.NOTE: Start it with the A/C turned OFF.
- Operate the select lever in P → R → N → D → M → D → N → R → P to circulate ATF in the transmission.
- Idle the engine for 30 seconds.
- Turn the ignition switch to OFF.
- Remove the drain plug (A) to drain ATF.
- Temporarily install the drain plug (A).NOTE: The drain plug gasket is replaced with a new part in step 29.
- Remove the refill plug (B).
- Use a hexagon socket wrench (5 mm) to remove the overflow plug (C).
- Fill the ATF from the refill plug hole and let it flow out of the overflow tube.

- Temporarily install the refill plug.NOTE: Replace the refill plug O-ring with a new part after adjusting the level of ATF.
- Start the engine.NOTE: Start it with the A/C turned OFF.
- Operate the select lever in P → R → N → D → M → D → N → R → P to circulate ATF in the transmission.
- Idle the engine for 30 seconds.
- Turn the ignition switch to OFF.
- Remove the drain plug to drain ATF.
- Install the drain plug using a new gasket.
Tightening torque:
20 N.m (2.0 kgf-m, 14.8 ft-lb)
- Remove the refill plug (B).
- Use a hexagon socket wrench (5 mm) to remove the overflow plug (C).
- Fill the ATF from the refill plug hole and let it flow out of the overflow tube.
