Rocker Cover RH

  1. Install new spark plug pipe gaskets to the spark plug pipe.
    NOTE: Apply a light coat of engine oil to the spark plug pipe gaskets, and insert them onto the spark plug pipe edge (A).

  2. Install new rocker cover gasket (ring type) to the cam carrier RH.

  3. Install new rocker cover gasket RH to the rocker cover RH.
  4. Apply liquid gasket to the mating surface of rocker cover RH as shown in the figure.
    NOTE:
    • Before applying liquid gasket, degrease the old liquid gasket seal surface of the engine.
    • Be careful not to allow liquid gasket to be squeezed out from rocker cover RH.
    • Install within 5 min. after applying liquid gasket.

    Liquid gasket: 

    THREE BOND 1217G (part No. K0877Y0100), THREE BOND 1217H or equivalent

    Liquid gasket applying diameter: 

    3±1 mm (0.1181±0.0394 in)

  5. Install the rocker cover RH to the cam carrier RH.
    1. Set the rocker cover RH on the cam carrier RH, and fasten all bolts until their two or more full threads engage.
    2. Tighten all bolts with a torque of 6.4 N.m (0.7 kgf-m, 4.7 ft-lb) in numerical order as shown in the figure.
    3. Tighten all bolts again with a torque of 6.4 N.m (0.7 kgf-m, 4.7 ft-lb) in numerical order as shown in the figure.
      NOTE: This procedure is necessary to stabilize torque.

  6. Install the #1 ignition coil and the #3 ignition coil. Ref. to IGNITION (H4DO (EXCEPT FOR HEV))>IGNITION COIL>INSTALLATION .
  7. When working on the vehicle
    NOTE: When working on the vehicle, perform the following steps also.
    1. Support the engine with a lifting device and wire ropes.

    2. Lift the engine a little, and remove the ST.
      CAUTION: When lifting up the engine, pay attention to the clearance of each part and be careful not to lift the engine too much, in order to prevent damaging the vehicle.

    3. Lower the engine and remove the lifting device and wire ropes.
    4. Remove the ST1 and ST2 from the engine unit. (Gasoline engine model)

    5. Lift up the vehicle.
    6. Install the nuts which hold the engine mounting to the front crossmember. (CVT model)
      CAUTION: Use new nuts.
      NOTE: Make sure that locators (a) of the engine mounting are securely inserted.

      Tightening torque: 

      90 N.m (9.2 kgf-m, 66.4 ft-lb)

    7. Install the nuts which hold the engine mounting to the front crossmember. (MT model)
      CAUTION: Use new nuts.

      Tightening torque: 

      90 N.m (9.2 kgf-m, 66.4 ft-lb)

    8. Install the front exhaust pipe. Ref. to EXHAUST (H4DO (EXCEPT FOR HEV))>FRONT EXHAUST PIPE>INSTALLATION .
    9. Lower the vehicle.
    10. Install the pitching stopper. (CVT model)

      Impreza model: 

      Ref. to CONTINUOUSLY VARIABLE TRANSMISSION (TR580 IMPREZA)>TRANSMISSION MOUNTING SYSTEM>INSTALLATION>PITCHING STOPPER .

      Crosstrek gasoline engine model: 

      Ref. to CONTINUOUSLY VARIABLE TRANSMISSION (TR580 CROSSTREK)>TRANSMISSION MOUNTING SYSTEM>INSTALLATION>PITCHING STOPPER .

      Crosstrek hybrid model: 

      Ref. to CONTINUOUSLY VARIABLE TRANSMISSION (TH2A)>TRANSMISSION MOUNTING SYSTEM>INSTALLATION>PITCHING STOPPER .

    11. Install the pitching stopper. (MT model)

      5MT model: 

      Ref. to MANUAL TRANSMISSION AND DIFFERENTIAL (5MT)>TRANSMISSION MOUNTING SYSTEM>INSTALLATION>PITCHING STOPPER .

      6MT model: 

      Ref. to MANUAL TRANSMISSION AND DIFFERENTIAL (6MT)>TRANSMISSION MOUNTING SYSTEM>INSTALLATION>PITCHING STOPPER .

    12. Set the inverter front water pipe, and secure the pipe - evaporator cooling to the bracket with the clip (A). (Hybrid model)
    13. Install the bolt to secure the inverter front water pipe to the vehicle. (Hybrid model)

      Tightening torque: 

      7.5 N.m (0.8 kgf-m, 5.5 ft-lb)

    14. Install the inverter center water pipe inlet hose and the inverter center water pipe outlet hose to the clamp (B), and secure the harness to the inverter front water pipe with the clip (C). (Hybrid model)

    15. Install the air cleaner case. Ref. to INTAKE (INDUCTION) (H4DO (EXCEPT FOR HEV))> AIR CLEANER CASE>INSTALLATION .
    16. Install the air intake boot. Ref. to INTAKE (INDUCTION) (H4DO (EXCEPT FOR HEV))>AIR INTAKE BOOT>INSTALLATION .
    17. Install the V-belt cover. (Gasoline engine model)
      NOTE:
      • Check the grommet for peel-off or disengagement.
      • Be careful not to deform the bracket during installation.

      Tightening torque: 

      7 N.m (0.7 kgf-m, 5.2 ft-lb)

    18. Install the collector cover. (Hybrid model) Ref. to INTAKE (INDUCTION) (H4DO (EXCEPT FOR HEV))>COLLECTOR COVER>INSTALLATION .
    19. Connect the ground terminal to battery sensor. Ref. to REPAIR CONTENTS>REPAIR CONTENTS>NOTE>BATTERY .
      NOTE: For the hybrid model, connect the battery negative terminal.
    20. Set the front hood to the normal position. Ref. to REPAIR CONTENTS>REPAIR CONTENTS>NOTE>STAY ASSEMBLY - FRONT HOOD .
    21. Install the striker - front hood. Ref. to EXTERIOR BODY PANELS>FRONT HOOD>ASSEMBLY .
    22. Close the front hood.
