BACKGROUND

The microswitches for the soft top cover latches can cause functional disorders and therefore have been replaced in production with microswitches of higher quality.

After customer complaint, proceed as follows.

SYMPTOM DESCRIPTION

The soft top (Fig. Fig 1 ) cannot be operated or it stops in midoperation. SID displays the message CHECK SOFT TOP and the following diagnostic trouble codes may be generated: B2025, B2026, B2030, B2031.

PARTS REQUIRED

51 84 403 Microswitch (CA: 30585716)

PROCEDURE

Refer to Fig. Fig 2 for steps 1 through 4.

1. Remove the rear side trim. See "Body - Convertible Adjustment/Replacement - Rear side trim".
2. Remove the clip for the rear trim and lift up the trim.
3. Remove the screws holding the microswitch.
4. Unplug the connector, remove the microswitch and remove the tape holding the wires.

   Refer to Fig. Fig 3 for steps 5 and 6.

5. Run the cable through the bracket for the backrest catch mechanism and fit the microswitch.
   • Torque specification: 1.6 in-lbs.
     NOTE: It is important to not overtighten the screws. Overtightening can cause internal damage to the switch.
6. Plug in the connector.

   Refer to Fig. Fig 4 for steps 7 and 8.

7. Install cloth tape to secure the wires to the body.
8. Fit the rear trim and the rear side trim. See "Body Convertible - Adjustment/Replacement - Rear side trim".
9. Connect the diagnostic tool and erase any diagnostic trouble codes.
10. Cycle the top several times. Check for correction operation.
