Installation Procedure

  1. If the vehicle has AWD, install the heat shield to the pump.
    NOTE: Refer to FASTENER NOTICE .
  2. Install the rear bracket (4) and the bolt to the pump.

    1. Tighten 
    2. Tighten the bolt to 37 N.m (27.3 lb ft).
  3. Install the following components to the power steering pump front bracket:
    • The power steering pump
    • The 2 bolts (5,6)
    • The 2 nuts (7,8)
  4. Tighten the nuts and the bolts.
    1. Tighten 
    2. Tighten the nuts and the bolts to 37 N.m (27.3 lb ft).

    Important:  Verify the connectors are clean.

  5. Connect the PSP switch connector (3).
  6. Install the outlet pipe fitting (1) to the pump.
    1. Tighten 
    2. Tighten the fitting to 41 N.m (30.2 lb ft).
  7. Install the outlet pipe clamp bolt (2).
    1. Tighten 
    2. Tighten the bolt to 7.8 N.m (69.04 Ib. in).
  8. Install the pump inlet hose (10) to the pump.
  9. Install the hose clamp (9) to the pump inlet hose.
  10. Install the drive belt. Refer to DRIVE BELT REPLACEMENT in Engine Mechanical-1.8L (LV6) or to DRIVE BELT REPLACEMENT in Engine Mechanical -1.8L (LNK).
  11. Install the right front tire and wheel assembly. Refer to TIRE AND WHEEL REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION in Tires and Wheels.
  12. Lower the vehicle.
    NOTE: When adding fluid or making a complete fluid change, always use the proper power steering fluid. Failure to use the proper fluid will cause hose and seal damage and fluid leaks.
  13. Fill the power steering fluid reservoir. Refer to CHECKING AND ADDING POWER STEERING FLUID  .
  14. Bleed the power steering system. Refer to BLEEDING THE POWER STEERING SYSTEM  .
  15. Inspect the power steering system for fluid leaks. Repair as necessary.
  16. Install the right front engine splash shield. Refer to SPLASH SHIELD REPLACEMENT - ENGINE - RIGHT in Body Front End.
