System Check
- Drive vehicle at speeds greater than 25 MPH. Place cruise control main switch in ON position. Press SET/COAST switch once and release. Observe cruise control indicator light. If indicator light is illuminated, go to next step. If indicator light is not illuminated, go to CRUISE CONTROL INDICATOR LIGHT INOPERATIVE under SYSTEM TESTS.
- Remove foot from accelerator pedal. If vehicle maintains speed, go to next step. If vehicle does not maintain speed, go to step 12 .
- Press and hold RES/ACCEL switch until vehicle speed increases 4-5 MPH. Release RES/ACCEL switch. If vehicle accelerates and maintains new set speed, go to next step. If vehicle does not accelerate and maintain new set speed, go to step 12 .
- Press and hold SET/COAST switch until vehicle speed decreases 4-5 MPH. Release SET/COAST switch. If vehicle decelerates and maintains new set speed, go to next step. If vehicle does not decelerate and maintain new set speed, go to step 12 .
- Depress brake pedal slightly. Cruise control system should disengage, and previously set speed should be retained in memory. If operation is as specified, go to next step. If cruise control will not disengage, go to step 12 .
- Press RES/ACCEL switch once and release. If vehicle accelerates to and maintains previously set speed, go to next step. If vehicle does not accelerate to previously set speed, go to step 12 .
- Quickly press and release (tap-up) RES/ACCEL switch. If vehicle speed increases one MPH and maintains new set speed, go to next step. If vehicle speed does not increase, go to step 12 .
- Quickly press and release (tap-down) SET/COAST switch. If vehicle speed decreases one MPH and maintains new set speed, go to next step. If vehicle speed does not decrease, go to step 12 .
- Press CLEAR switch. Cruise control system should disengage, but retain previously set speed in memory. If operation is as specified, go to next step. If cruise control system does not disengage, go to step 12 .
- Press RES/ACCEL switch once and release. If vehicle accelerates and maintains previously set speed, go to next step. If vehicle does not accelerate and maintain previously set speed, go to step 12 .
- Place main cruise control switch in OFF position. Cruise control system should disengage, and set speed should be erased from memory. If operation is as specified, system is okay. If cruise control will not disengage, go to step 12 .
- Go to CRUISE CONTROL INOPERATIVE/MALFUNCTIONING and/or CRUISE CONTROL INOPERATIVE/MALFUNCTIONING (USING TESTER J42958) under SYSTEM TESTS.
