Cruise Control Indicator Light Inoperative

  1. Check for any condition in instrument panel wiring and printed circuitry which might effect cruise control indicator light operation. See appropriate ANALOG INSTRUMENT PANELS article. Repair as necessary. After repair, check system for normal operation. If indicator light is still inoperative, go to next step.
  2. Turn ignition switch to ON position. If cruise control indicator light illuminates during bulb check period, go to next step. If cruise control indicator light does not illuminate during bulb check period, go to step  6 .
  3. Following manufacturer's instructions, connect GM Tech II scan tool. Road test vehicle at speeds greater than 25 MPH. Set cruise control. Using scan tool, observe CRUISE LAMP parameters in IPC data list. If scan tool indicates cruise control indicator light is commanded ON, go to next step. If scan tool indicates cruise control indicator light is not commanded ON, go to step  5 .
  4. Check for poor connections or connector damage at PCM harness connectors. Repair as necessary. After repair, check system for normal operation. If no problem is found, check On-Board Diagnostics (OBD) system. See appropriate SELF-DIAGNOSTICS article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE.
  5. Check for poor connections or connector damage at instrument panel harness connectors. Repair or replace as necessary. After repair, check system for normal operation.
  6. Check for faulty cruise control indicator light bulb. Replace if necessary. After bulb replacement, check system for normal operation. If bulb is okay, go to next step.
  7. Replace instrument panel cluster. See appropriate ANALOG INSTRUMENT PANELS article. After repair, check system for normal operation.
