Speedometer/Odometer Inoperative
NOTE:
If odometer is inoperative, replace instrument cluster. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER
under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Recheck system operation.
- Perform instrument cluster system check. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER SYSTEM CHECK under TROUBLE SHOOTING. Go to next step.
- Disconnect Powertrain Control Module (PCM) Blue 80-pin connector C1. Connect Signal Generator Instrument Panel Tester (J-33431-B) to PCM connector C1, terminal No. 55 (Dark Green/White wire). See WIRING DIAGRAMS . Connect tester ground terminal to a good chassis ground. Set tester to 54 MPH. Turn ignition on. If speedometer reads 54 MPH, go to step 4 . If speedometer does not read 54 MPH, go to next step.
- Check for open or short (to ground or voltage) in Dark Green/White wire between PCM connector C1 and instrument cluster connector C2, terminal E10. See Figure . See WIRING DIAGRAMS . Check for poor connection at instrument cluster vehicle speed input terminal. Repair as necessary and recheck system operation. If wiring and connections are okay, replace instrument cluster. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Recheck system operation.
- Check for poor connection at PCM connector C1, terminal No. 55 (Dark Green/White wire). Check for poor connection at Black 66-pin connector C101 (body-to-engine wiring harness, located at right rear of engine compartment, near strut tower), terminal B6 (Dark Green/White wire). Repair as necessary and recheck system operation. If connections are okay, locate and repair problem in PCM system. See appropriate SELF-DIAGNOSTICS article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE.
