Test 1, Washer System Inoperative (No Solution Is Delivered To Windshield)

  1. Check the following: quantity of solution in reservoir, hoses not pinched, kinked or damaged, and hose attachments to reservoir, pump and nozzles. If hose fit is loose, cut off 1/2" and reattach. Plugged screen filter or nozzles. If okay, go to test step 2).
  2. With ignition on, remove connector from washer pump terminals 4 and 5. Using test light, ground one lead and probe terminals 4 and 5 at connector. If test light is off at both terminals, check for open in feed circuit to washer relay from terminal or motor connector. If test light is on, go to test step 3).
  3. Connect test light to washer terminals 4 and 5, then push wash button. If test light is off, check for open in wire to wiper switch or a defective switch. If test light is on, go to test step 4).
  4. Reconnect wiring to terminals 4 and 5. Ground test light and touch probe to terminals 4 and 5. If test light is off on one terminal, replace washer relay. If test light is on at both terminals, go to test step 5).
  5. Remove washer pump cover. Connect wiring to wiper motor. Operate wipers in low speed. Observe ratchet pawl. If ratchet is not moving, check for cam follower pin for binding. If binding, replace washer pump assembly. If ratchet pawl moves back and forth, go to test step 6). See Fig 1

  6. Depress washer bottom and observe if ratchet gear rotates. If gear rotates, replace valve assembly. If problem still exists, replace piston and pump housing assembly. If gear does not rotate, check for ratchet pawl spring missing or not properly connected, and sachet dog spring not engaging ratchet gear teeth.
