32 31 070 Removing And Installing/Replacing Lower Section Of Steering Spindle

IMPORTANT: If the lower section of the steering spindle is separated from the power steering gear, this can result in damage to the contact ring when the steering wheel is turned.

Necessary Preliminary Tasks: 

Remove air duct in footwell. See 35 11 000 REMOVING AND INSTALLING MOUNTING BLOCK FOR PEDALS

Mark installation position of lower section of steering spindle in relation to steering column.

Release clamping screw (1).

Move steering wheel to straight-ahead position and remove ignition key.

Pull lower section of steering spindle out of universal joint.

Detach lower section of steering spindle from steering column and remove towards rear.

Installation: 

Clamping screw (1) must rest in groove of steering column.

Replace clamping screw.

Tightening torque, refer to 32 31 1AZ in STEERING AND WHEEL ALIGNMENT - TIGHTENING TORQUES .
