32 13 066 Replacing hydraulic steering gear (with active front steering)

IMPORTANT:
Adhere to the utmost cleanliness. Do not allow any dirt to enter the hydraulic system.
Seal connections and lines immediately after removal with sealing plugs.

Necessary preliminary tasks
- Draw off and dispose of hydraulic fluid from fluid reservoir
- Remove underbody protection at front and rear. See FRONT UNDERBODY PROTECTION and REAR UNDERBODY PROTECTION .
- Remove COVER FOR STEERING ASSEMBLIES on left and right
- Remove TRACK ROD END ON BOTH SIDES FROM SWIVEL BEARING
- Remove lower section of steering spindle from steering gear. See UNIVERSAL JOINT WITH CORRUGATED TUBING (N55) or UNIVERSAL JOINT WITH CORRUGATED TUBING (N63) .
- Remove TRACK ROD END AT BOTH ENDS OF TRACK ROD
- Version with Dynamic Drive (F01/F02/F07):
- Remove FRONT ANTI-ROLL BAR
- Remove EXPANSION HOSE
Slacken nut (1).
Tightening torque 32 41 7AZ .
Release screw (2) on bracket.
Tightening torque 32 41 7AZ .
Release screw (3).
Tightening torque 32 00 1AZ .
Unlock plug connections (1) and disconnect.
Pull hydraulic steering gear towards front a little.
Unfasten plug connection (1) and disconnect.
Release screw (2) and remove lines (3) from hydraulic steering gear.
Tightening torque 32 41 5AZ .
Remove power steering gear in downward direction.
Replacement
Modify wiring harness on hydraulic steering gear.
After installation
- Fill and bleed hydraulic system. See BLEEDING POWER STEERING UNIT or BLEEDING POWER STEERING (VERSION WITH DYNAMIC DRIVE) .
- Check pipe connections for leaks
- Perform alignment check. See ALIGNMENT CHECK WITH VEHICLE LOAD or ALIGNMENT CHECK WITHOUT VEHICLE LOAD .
- Perform ADJUSTMENT FOR ACTIVE STEERING
- If necessary, carry out INITIAL OPERATION FOR DYNAMIC DRIVE (F01/F02/F07)
