32 13 070 Removing and installing electromechanical power steering (EPS)
- Disconnect HIGH-VOLTAGE SYSTEM FROM POWER
- Observe SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS for handling with hybrid vehicles
Check connection of steering box for corrosion, clean contacts if necessary. The steering box must be replaced if the corrosion is too far advanced.
Connecting line:
In the event of moisture/corrosion inside the two plug connections, check the insulation of the connecting cable. If the insulation reveals any noticeable/striking features, it will be necessary to replace the part. Otherwise it will be sufficient to replace the contacts or plug housing.
Necessary preliminary tasks:
- Remove front UNDERBODY PROTECTION
- Disconnect BATTERY EARTH LEAD
To do so, draw a wide white stripe on the rear bolting points (left and right) and apply a thin black marking (3) to this stripe.
- Remove TRACK ROD END ON BOTH SIDES FROM SWIVEL BEARING
- Lower FRONT AXLE SUPPORT
- Remove STABILIZER
Unlock plug connection (1) from steering box (2) and disconnect.
Installation note:
Check plug connection for moisture and corrosion.
Plug connection must snap audibly into place.
Make sure connecting lead is correctly laid.
Release screws (1) from steering box (2).
Tightening torque 32 00 1AZ .
Installation note:
When installing, make sure that the steering box is realigned to the markings applied to the front axle support prior to removal.
Replace screws and nuts.
Disconnect plug connection (1) from steering box at bottom and disconnect.
Remove steering spindle on steering box.
Installation note:
Check plug connections for moisture and corrosion.
Plug connection must snap audibly into place.
Make sure connecting lead is correctly laid.
Plug connection (1) on electric steering box must not become damaged during removal!
Remove steering box with wiring harness sideways between engine and front axle support.
After Installation note
- Teach in END STOP SOFTWARE
- Carry out STEERING ANGLE SENSOR ADJUSTMENT
