32 13 070 Removing and installing electromechanical power steering (EPS)

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2011 BMW X6 and 2010 BMW X6. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
WARNING: High-voltage system - danger to life!
WARNING: The following points must be strictly observed prior to starting work:
IMPORTANT: Steering box:
Check connection of steering box for corrosion, clean contacts if necessary. The steering box must be replaced if the corrosion is too far advanced.
Connecting line:
In the event of moisture/corrosion inside the two plug connections, check the insulation of the connecting cable. If the insulation reveals any noticeable/striking features, it will be necessary to replace the part. Otherwise it will be sufficient to replace the contacts or plug housing.
NOTE: In a warranty case you must always provide a fault memory printout, even where there is no fault memory entry, with the defective part.

Necessary preliminary tasks:

IMPORTANT: To avoid the need for axle/wheel alignment, mark position of steering box (1) to front axle support (2).

To do so, draw a wide white stripe on the rear bolting points (left and right) and apply a thin black marking (3) to this stripe.
