Test C: Set Speed Fluctuates

  1. Check speedometer. Test drive vehicle. Drive at a constant speed between 64 km/h (40 mph) and 88 km/h (55 mph) and observe reading. Does the speedometer display a constant speed? If yes, go to next step. If no, see INSTRUMENT PANELS, ANALOG -- VILLAGER or INSTRUMENT PANEL ELECTRONIC -- VILLAGER article.
  2. Perform speed control actuator test. See SPEED CONTROL ACTUATOR  under COMPONENT TESTS. If yes, go to next step. If no, replace speed control actuator. See SPEED CONTROL ACTUATOR  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
  3. Check vehicle speed circuit signal. Turn key OFF. Disconnect the black conventional instrument cluster connector (12 pin) or the electronic instrument cluster connector (16 pin), and the speed control module connector. Measure the resistance of the Green/Yellow)wire between the instrument cluster connector and the speed control module connector. Measure the resistance of the Green/Yellow wire between the instrument cluster connector and ground. See WIRING DIAGRAMS  . Is the resistance less than 5 ohms between the instrument cluster and the speed control module, and greater than 10,000 ohms between the instrument cluster and ground? If yes, replace speed control module. See SPEED CONTROL MODULE  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If no, service Green/Yellow wire.
