Power Flow, Function - GF27.10-P-2009AHE

TRANSMISSION 722.9 (except 722.930) in MODEL 205

Power transmission, general

The term "power flow" refers to the transmission paths of driving power and engine torques. The engine torques are transmitted to the drive wheels via the mechanical hydraulic connection of engine, torque converter, the downstream automatic transmission and rear axle differential.

Power is transferred in the torque converter via the driven impeller by diverting hydraulic fluid to the turbine wheel which is connected to the drive shaft.

When the torque converter lockup clutch is engaged, power is transmitted via this mechanical connection.

The torques starting at the torque converter are transferred to the transmission main shaft with the help of multidisk clutches and multidisk brakes via the gears of the individual planetary gear sets, depending on transmission ratio and activated shift elements.

A reduction in the output speed in low gears leads to lower vehicle speeds with simultaneously increased tractive forces and drive torque at the drive gears.
