Function requirements:

Function

The function "washing" is activated by pressing the combination switch beyond the catch point. The steering column module reads in the request and forwards it over CAN-C to the central gateway control unit. This routes the signal over the CAN-B to the front SAM control unit. The front SAM control unit then directly actuates the window washer fluid pump.

Follow-up wiping

Afterwiping becomes active as soon as the combination switch is no longer activated. The number of afterwipe cycles is dependent on the operation time of the combination switch.

If the windshield washer fluid pump is requested for an activation time of less than 1 second, a single afterwipe takes place.

If the initial activation time is greater than 1 second, 3 wiper cycles are performed. If, during this afterwipe period, another wipe is requested, 3 afterwipes are performed.

IMPORTANT With a continuous request for the windshield washer fluid pump for t > 15 s a "stuck button" is detected and the actuation is then interrupted.

Automatic actuation of the headlamp cleaning system (HCS [SRA]) (with code (600) Headlamp cleaning system)

The headlamp cleaning system pump is automatically actuated by the front SAM control unit on vehicles up to 31.5.07 with low beams switched on and after fifteen actuations and for vehicles as of 1.6.07 after five actuations (time interval between each individual actuation t > 2.5 s).

In response to each request an internal counter in the front SAM control unit is incremented by one until it reaches the value of fifteen (up to 31.5.07) or the value of five (as of 1.6.07). The headlamp cleaning system pump is then actuated and the counter reset to "zero".

IMPORTANT The internal counter is also reset to zero at circuit 15 OFF or low beams OFF.
