Steering Shift Switch Inspection

WARNING:

Disconnect the negative battery cable and wait for 1 min or more. (See NEGATIVE BATTERY CABLE DISCONNECTION/CONNECTION .)
Remove the driver-side air bag module. (See AIR BAG SYSTEM SERVICE WARNINGS [STANDARD DEPLOYMENT CONTROL SYSTEM] .) (See AIR BAG SYSTEM SERVICE CAUTIONS [STANDARD DEPLOYMENT CONTROL SYSTEM] .) (See AIR BAG SYSTEM SERVICE WARNINGS [TWO-STEP DEPLOYMENT CONTROL SYSTEM] .) (See AIR BAG SYSTEM SERVICE CAUTIONS [TWO-STEP DEPLOYMENT CONTROL SYSTEM] .)
Disconnect the steering shift switch wiring harness connector.

Remove the column cover. (See COLUMN COVER REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
Using a precision flathead screwdriver, release the tab.

Measure the continuity between steering shift switch wiring harness connector terminals A-B and terminals D-E.

Up switch

Down switch

Up switch	A-B	Up switch is operated (up switch is pulled outward)	Continuity
Up switch	A-B	Up switch is not operated (up switch is not pulled outward)	No continuity
Down switch	D-E	Down switch is operated (down switch is pulled outward)	Continuity
Down switch	D-E	Down switch is not operated (down switch is not pulled outward)	No continuity

If there is any malfunction, replace the steering shift switch. (See STEERING SHIFT SWITCH REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
