Steering Shift Switch Inspection
WARNING:
- Handling the driver-side air bag module improperly can accidentally deploy the air bag module, which may seriously injure you. Read the air bag system service warnings and cautions before handling the air bag module. (See AIR BAG SYSTEM SERVICE WARNINGS [STANDARD DEPLOYMENT CONTROL SYSTEM] .) - Disconnect the negative battery cable and wait for 1 min or more. (See NEGATIVE BATTERY CABLE DISCONNECTION/CONNECTION .)
- Remove the driver-side air bag module. (See AIR BAG SYSTEM SERVICE WARNINGS [STANDARD DEPLOYMENT CONTROL SYSTEM] .) (See AIR BAG SYSTEM SERVICE CAUTIONS [STANDARD DEPLOYMENT CONTROL SYSTEM] .) - Disconnect the steering shift switch wiring harness connector.
- Remove the column cover. (See COLUMN COVER REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
- Using a precision flathead screwdriver, release the tab.
- Measure the continuity between steering shift switch wiring harness connector terminals A-B and terminals D-E.

Down switch

Switch Terminal Test condition Continuity Up switch A-B Up switch is operated (up switch is pulled outward) Continuity Up switch is not operated (up switch is not pulled outward) No continuity Down switch D-E Down switch is operated (down switch is pulled outward) Continuity Down switch is not operated (down switch is not pulled outward) No continuity - If there is any malfunction, replace the steering shift switch.
