Self-Diagnostic System

CAUTION: On models equipped with side air bags, Air Bag Simulators (Restraint Diagnostic Tool 105-R0012) MUST be connected to all air bag floor connector. After diagnosing/repairing, restraint system diagnostic tool must be removed prior to operating vehicle.
NOTE: Self-diagnostics is available only on Navigator with memory seat option.

For preliminary testing, see TROUBLE SHOOTING  . If problem is not found, connect New Generation Star (NGS) tester to Data Link Connector (DLC) located below center of instrument panel. Perform data link diagnostic test. See DATA LINK DIAGNOSTIC TEST under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM in appropriate MODULE COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK article. If NGS tester displays CKT914, CKT915 or CKT70 = ALL ECUS NO RESP/NOT EQUIP, repair module communication concern. See appropriate MODULE COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK article. If NGS tester displays NO RESP/NOT EQUIP for Driver's Door Module (DSM), see appropriate MODULE COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK article.

If NGS tester displays SYSTEM PASSED for DSM, retrieve and record continuous Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs). Erase continuous DTCs. Perform DSM self-test. If DTCs related to the concern are retrieved, perform appropriate test. See DSM DTC TEST INDEX  table. If no DTCs related to the concern are retrieved, perform appropriate test based on symptom. See SYMPTOM INDEX  table under SYSTEM TESTS. For DTCs not covered in this article, see appropriate MODULE COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK article.

NOTE: Navigators built between 10/4/99 and 10/25/99 coud be equipped with with a carry over Expedition/Navigator unique seat control switch or corporate seat control switch. If equipped with corporate seat control switch perform appropriate test for Navigators built after 10/25/99.
