Error Code 04 (Ambient Temperature Sensor)
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 1992 Lincoln Continental. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
- Symptoms associated with Code 04 are outside temperature display reads "-40°" or "140°". Also, check for cold air discharged when heat is selected or warm air discharged when A/C is selected.
- Disconnect negative battery cable to reset outside temperature display. Unplug wiring harness at ambient temperature sensor. Measure resistance across sensor terminals. See IN-CAR & AMBIENT TEMPERATURE SENSOR RESISTANCE table.
- Replace sensor if resistance is not as specified. If resistance is okay, keep battery cable disconnected. Unplug connectors from control panel. Check wiring between ambient temperature sensor and control panel for shorts or open circuits. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . Repair as necessary.
