Outside Moulding: Replacement

HINT:

  1. REMOVE FRONT WHEEL LH 
  2. REMOVE FRONT BUMPER COVER SUB-ASSY 
  3. REMOVE FRONT BUMPER EXTENSION LH 
  4. REMOVE FRONT BUMPER SIDE SUPPORT LH (See  REPLACEMENT   ) 
  5. REMOVE LH STEP SUB-ASSY (See  REPLACEMENT  ) 
  6. REMOVE FRONT BODY MUDGUARD LH 
    1. Remove the 4 bolts, 3 clips and the mudguard.
  7. REMOVE FRONT WHEEL OPENING EXTENSION LH 
    1. Remove the 3 bolts.
    2. Disengage the 12 clips and remove the opening extension.

  8. REMOVE FR DOOR OUTSIDE MOULDING SUB-ASSY LH 
    1. Using a heat light, heat the moulding to 40-60°C (104-140°F).
      NOTE: Do not heat the moulding excessively.
    2. Using a knife, cut the adhesive tape.

      NOTE:
      • If reusing the moulding, take care not to damage the moulding.
      • Do not damage the body.
    3. Remove the 10 clips and the moulding.
  9. REMOVE RR DOOR OUTSIDE MOULDING SUB-ASSY LH 
    1. Using a drill of less than phis 4 mm (0.16 in.), gently and vertically place the drill tip onto the rivet, and cut the rivet flanges.

      HINT:

      Wind the tape around the drill blade, so that the drill blade appears approx. 5.0 mm (0.20 in.) on the edge.

      NOTE:
      • Prizing the hole with a drill can lead to damage to the rivet hole or the drill itself.
      • Be careful when undertaking this task as the cut rivet is hot.
    2. Even if the flange is taken off, continue drilling and push cut the remaining fragment with the drill.
    3. Using a heat light, heat the moulding to 40-60°C (104-140°F).
      NOTE: Do not heat the moulding excessively.
    4. Using a knife, cut the adhesive tape.

      NOTE:
      • If reusing the moulding, take care not to damage the moulding.
      • Do not damage the body.
    5. Disengage the 9 clips.
    6. Remove the moulding sub-assy.
  10. REMOVE QUARTER PANEL MOULDING SUB-ASSY OUTSIDE LH 
    1. Remove the rear wheel.
    2. Remove the 2 bolts.
    3. Disengage the 5 clips.
    4. Remove the quarter panel moulding.

  11. REMOVE QUARTER PANEL MUDGUARD SUB-ASSY REAR LH 
    1. Remove 6 bolts, a clip and mudguard.
  12. REMOVE ROCKER PANEL MOULDING SUB-ASSY LH 
    1. Remove the 2 screws and the 4 clips.

    3. Using a screwdriver, pry out the moulding.

      HINT:

      Tape the screwdriver tip before use.

  13. INSTALL FR DOOR OUTSIDE MOULDING SUB-ASSY LH 
    1. Clean the body moulding surface.
      1. Using a heat light, heat the body moulding surface to 40-60°C (104-140°F).
        NOTE: Do not heat the moulding excessively.
      2. Remove the adhesive tape from the body.
      3. Wipe off the stain with cleaner.
    2. If reusing the moulding:

      Clean the moulding.

      1. Using a heat light, heat the moulding to 20-30°C (68-86°F).
        NOTE: Do not heat the moulding excessively.
      2. Remove the adhesive tape from the moulding.
      3. Wipe off the stains with cleaner.
      4. Apply new adhesive tapes to the moulding as shown in the illustration.

    4. Install the front door outside moulding sub-assy LH.
      1. Using a heat light, heat the body and moulding.
        HEATING TEMPERATURE

        Body 40-60° C(104-140°F)
        Moulding 20-30°C (68-86°F)
        NOTE: Do not heat the moulding and body excessively.
      2. Remove the moulding release sheet from the moulding face.
      3. Align the bosses with their corresponding holes in the body, and press firmly on the moulding.
      NOTE: Do not apply excessive force onto the moulding, but steady pressure with your thumbs.
  14. INSTALL RR DOOR OUTSIDE MOULDING SUB-ASSY LH 
    1. Clean the body moulding surface.
      1. Using a heat light, heat the body moulding surface to 40-60 °C (104-140°F).
        NOTE: Do not heat the body excessively.
      2. Remove the adhesive tape from the body.
      3. Wipe off the stain with cleaner.
    2. If reusing the moulding:
      1. Clean the moulding.
      1. Using a heat light, heat the moulding to 20-30°C (68-86°F).
        NOTE: Do not heat the moulding excessively.
      2. Remove the adhesive tape from the moulding.
      3. Wipe off the stains with cleaner.
      4. Apply new adhesive tapes to the moulding as shown in the illustration.

    4. Install the moulding.
      1. Using a heat light, heat the body and moulding.
        HEATING TEMPERATURE

        Body 40-60°C(104-140°F)
        Moulding 20-30°C (68-86°F)
        NOTE: Do not heat the Body and moulding excessively.
      2. Align the bosses with their corresponding holes in the body, and press firmly on the moulding.
      NOTE: Do not apply excessive force onto the moulding, but steady pressure with your thumbs.
    5. Using an air riveter or hand riveter with nose piece, strike the rivets into the door panel to install the rear door outside moulding to the door panel.

    NOTE:
    • If the rivet is not positioned perpendicularly, it will bend the mandrel.
    • When the trigger is then pulled, it may damage riveter.
    NOTE:
    • Do not prize a riveter, because the riveter will be damaged and the mandrel will be bent.

    • Do not tilt the riveter when removing the rivet, because the materials are not tightened firmly.

    • Install the rivet while attaching the materials, because they are not tightened firmly.
