Pinpoint Test A: Heated Steering Wheel Switch/Temperature Test
- A1: HEATED STEERING WHEEL SWITCH OPERATION TEST NOTE: The heated steering wheel will not operate if the engine is not running.
- Start the engine.
Is the heated steering wheel switch available/illuminated?
Yes: GO to A2.
No: GO to Pinpoint Test B.
- Start the engine.
- A2: HEATED STEERING WHEEL SWITCH ILLUMINATION TEST NOTE: The heated steering wheel will not operate if the engine is not running.
- The engine should still be running.
- Set the heated steering wheel switch to ON.
Did the heated steering wheel switch illuminate amber?
Yes: GO to A3.
No: GO to Pinpoint Test B.
- A3: HEATED STEERING WHEEL TEMPERATURE TEST NOTE: An infrared thermometer is used during this test. The steering wheel temperature should have increased by approximately 10°C after 5 minutes. Do not measure the steering wheel temperature at the seam in the in the leather; this is where the heater element starts and finishes and will produce inaccurate test results.
- Set the heated steering wheel switch to OFF.
- Set the climate control to cool the vehicle interior for 5 minutes.
- Using an infrared thermometer, measure and record the temperature of the steering wheel rim at six equidistant points.
- Set the heated steering wheel switch to ON and allow 10 minutes to reach operating temperature.
- Using an infrared thermometer, monitor the temperature of the steering wheel rim at six equidistant points.
Has the temperature increased at any point on the steering wheel rim?
Yes: GO to A4.
No: GO to Pinpoint Test C.
- A4: HEATED STEERING WHEEL STABILIZATION TEMPERATURE TEST NOTE: An infrared thermometer is used during this test. The heated steering wheel temperature should stabilize at 30°C to 43°C.
- Using an infrared thermometer, monitor the temperature of the steering wheel rim at six equidistant points.
- Allow 10 minutes for the temperature to stabilize.
Has the temperature stabilized within the specified range at any of the six points?
Yes: Heated steering wheel operating normally.
No: GO to Pinpoint Test J.
- Using an infrared thermometer, monitor the temperature of the steering wheel rim at six equidistant points.
