Lower Timing Covers

  1. Clean the gasket mating surfaces.

  2. Using a new gasket, install the lower timing cover (2) and tighten bolts (1) finger tight.

  3. Install the (special tool #99396039, Tool, Alignment) (2) and align lower timing cover. Tighten the bolts (1) to 25 N.m (18 ft. lbs.).
  4. Remove the alignment tool (2).

  5. Install the idler pulley. Tighten bolt 28 N.m (21 ft. lbs.).

  6. Install the serpentine belt tensioner. Tighten bolt 25 N.m (18 ft. lbs.).
  7. Install the bypass filter. Refer to FILTER, BYPASS, INSTALLATION .
  8. Install the vibration damper. Refer to DAMPER, VIBRATION .
  9. Install the engine into vehicle. Refer to INSTALLATION .
  10. Connect the negative battery cable.
