Primary Timing Chain

  1. If removed, install a NEW  gasket (2) and O-ring seal (3) on the power steering drive adapter (1) assembly.

  2. If removed, lubricate O-ring seal with clean engine oil and install the power steering drive adapter (2) assembly. Tighten the nuts (1) to 25 N.m (18 ft. lbs.).

  3. If required, install the (special tool #99360187, Holding Tool, Power Steering) (1) onto back side of adapter and securely tighten the bolts (2).

  4. If required, install the power steering drive gear bolt (1) and tighten finger tight.

  5. If removed, install a NEW  O-ring seal (1) onto fuel injection pump adapter (2).

  6. If removed, install the fuel injection pump adapter (2). Tighten the nuts (1) to 25 N.m (18 ft. lbs.).

  7. If removed, install the fuel injection pump drive gear (2) and tighten the bolt (1) finger tight.

  8. Install the (special tool #2000018200, Pin, Locking) tool (5) into engine block.
  9. Position the NEW  timing chain (1) onto the crankshaft sprocket (4), the fuel injection pump drive sprocket (2) and the power steering pump drive sprocket (3).

  10. Make sure the timing chain has no slack in location (1 and 2).

  11. Install the right timing chain guide (1). Tighten the bolts (2) to 25 N.m (18 ft. lbs.).

  12. Install the lower timing chain guide (2). Tighten the bolts (1) to 25 N.m (18 ft. lbs.).

  13. Install the left upper and lower timing chain guide (2 and 3). Tighten the bolt (1) to 40 N.m (30 ft. lbs.).
  14. Install the lower timing chain tensioner. Refer to TENSIONER, ENGINE TIMING, INSTALLATION .

  15. Tighten the power steering drive gear bolt (1) to 130 N.m (96 ft. lbs.).

  16. If required, remove the bolts (2) and the power steering holding tool (1).

  17. Install the engine oil/vacuum pump (2). Tighten the bolts (1) to N.m 25 (18 ft. lbs.).
  18. Install the power steering pump. Refer to INSTALLATION 3.0L DIESEL ENGINE .
  19. Install the fuel injection pump. Refer to PUMP, FUEL INJECTION, INSTALLATION .
  20. Install the upper timing chain. Refer to CHAIN AND SPROCKETS, TIMING, INSTALLATION .
