Power Recliner Adjuster/Motor Test
NOTE:
The following test is for vehicles without power seat memory system option. For testing of power seats with memory system, see BODY CONTROL COMPUTER
article.
- Operate power recliner switch in both directions. If power recliner operates in one direction only, move seat in opposite direction and test again to ensure adjuster is not at its travel limit. If power recliner still operates in one direction only, see POWER SEAT SWITCH TEST . If power recliner is inoperative in both directions, go to next step.
- Check circuit breaker. See CIRCUIT BREAKER TEST . Replace circuit breaker as necessary and recheck system operation. If circuit breaker is okay, remove power seat switch. See POWER SEAT SWITCH under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Using a voltmeter, measure voltage between ground and terminal No. 5 (Red wire) at power seat wiring harness connector. If battery voltage is present, go to next step. If battery voltage is not present, repair open Red wire between circuit breaker No. 3 and power seat switch connector.
- Using an ohmmeter, check for continuity between ground and terminal No. 1 (Black wire) at power seat wiring harness connector. If continuity exists, go to next step. If continuity does not exist, repair open Black wire to ground.
- Test power seat switch. See POWER SEAT SWITCH TEST . Replace switch as necessary and recheck system operation. If switch is okay, replace faulty power recliner adjuster/motor assembly and recheck system operation.
