Steering Wheel Inflatable Restraint Module Coil Replacement

Callout Component Name
CAUTION: The new SIR coil assembly will be centered. Improper alignment of the SIR coil assembly may damage the unit, causing an inflatable restraint malfunction.

Preliminary Procedures

  1. Remove the steering wheel. Refer to Steering Wheel Replacement
  2. Remove the steering column shroud. Refer to Steering Column Shroud Replacement (Without Electronic Tilt Steering) or Steering Column Shroud Replacement (With Electronic Tilt Steering) .

Procedure: 
Disconnect any electrical connectors as needed.
Tip: 
  • Ensure the inflatable restraint steering wheel module coil washer does not need replacing and is installed correctly before reinstalling the coil.
  • If reusing the inflatable restraint steering wheel module coil it must centered before reinstalling it. Refer to Inflatable Restraint Steering Wheel Module Coil Centering .
