Water Pump Inspection

  1. Remove the front wheel.
  2. Remove the splash shields.
  3. Loosen the water pump pulley mounting bolts.
  4. Remove the drive belt (see DRIVE BELT INSPECTION  ).
  5. Remove the water pump pulley.

  6. Turn the water pump counterclockwise. Check that it turns freely. If it does not turn smoothly, replace the water pump (see WATER PUMP REPLACEMENT  ).
    NOTE: When you check the water pump, you may see a small amount of "weeping" from the bleed holes (A). This is normal.

  7. Install the water pump pulley.
  8. Install the drive belt (see DRIVE BELT INSPECTION ).
  9. Tighten the water pump pulley mounting bolts.
  10. Install the splash shields.
  11. Install the front wheel.
