Passenger's Multiplex Control Unit

  1. Remove right kick panel. Disconnect passenger's multiplex control unit connectors. Remove passenger's multiplex control unit. Check passenger's multiplex control unit connectors for loose, damaged or corroded terminals. If problem exists, repair as necessary. If problem does not exist, go to next step.
  2. Measure resistance between passenger's multiplex control unit connector terminals D8 (White/Red wire) and D9 (Red/White wire) while rotating dimmer control. See Fig 1 . Resistance should be vary between zero and 12 k/ohms as dimmer control is rotated. If resistance is as specified, go to next step. If resistance is not as specified, check dash lights brightness controller. See DASH LIGHTS BRIGHTNESS CONTROLLER  under COMPONENT TESTS. Check for open in Red/White wire or White/Red wire between passenger's multiplex control unit and dash lights brightness controller. Repair as necessary.
  3. Turn headlights on. Connect jumper wire between ground and passenger's multiplex control unit connector terminal E10 (Red wire). If instrument panel and gauge assembly lights come on at full brightness, go to next step. If instrument panel and gauge cluster lights do not come on at full brightness, repair open in Red wire between dash lights brightness controller and passenger's multiplex control unit.
  4. Check continuity between ground and passenger's multiplex control unit connector terminal E20 (Black wire). If continuity exists, dash lights brightness control system inputs to passenger's multiplex control unit are okay. If continuity does not exist, repair open in Black wire between passenger's multiplex control unit and ground (G401). See COMPONENT LOCATIONS  .
