Removal (Vehicle Communication Unit)

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Oldsmobile Aurora. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
NOTE: Vehicle Communication Unit (VCU) has a specific set of unique numbers that tie a module to each vehicle. 10-digit station identification and 11-digit electronic serial number are used by National Cellular Network and OnStar® to identify a specific vehicle. Because these numbers are tied to a vehicle identification number of a vehicle, these parts must never be exchanged with those of another vehicle.
  1. Remove TRUNK TRIM PANELS. See TRUNK TRIM PANELS .
  2. Pull upward on spring loaded snap connector to disconnect cellular coaxial cable (2) from OnStar® VCU. See Fig 1. Disconnect harness connector.
  3. Remove VCU (6) by lifting retainer tab (1). Remove VCU (6). VCU core must be returned for credit.
