Self-Diagnostic System

WARNING: This test is Key On Engine Off (KOEO) test only. Ensure gear selector is in Park, and parking brake is fully engaged.
NOTE: Manufacturer specifies ignition switch position during testing, although it may not affect power distribution.
  1. Hold speed control OFF button and turn ignition switch to RUN position (engine off). CRUISE indicator on instrument cluster should flash once to indicate successful entry into self-diagnostic mode. If CRUISE indicator does not flash, repeat step  1 . If CRUISE indicator still does not flash, repair system by symptom. See SYMPTOM INDEX  table under SYSTEM TESTS. If CRUISE indicator flashes once followed by 5 additional flashes, replace cruise control servo/actuator.
  2. NOTE: If ON switch is not pressed within 5 seconds after entering diagnostic mode, module times out and procedure must be started over.
  3. Release speed control OFF button. Within 5 seconds of entering self-diagnostics, press speed control ON button. Press remaining speed control buttons in the following sequence; ON, RES, COAST and SET/ACCEL. As each button is pressed, CRUISE indicator will flash. Wait until indicator light goes out to press next button.
  4. After sequence has been completed, indicator light will flash to indicate test passed. If indicator light does not flash after last button pressed, switch is defective. If additional flashes occur, note number of flashes. See FLASH CODES  table and perform appropriate test.
  5. Immediately after static test has passed, actuator performs a dynamic test by automatically operating throttle .04-.40" (1-10 mm). Observe throttle movement to witness any sticking of cable or linkage. Ensure throttle returns properly. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. If self-diagnostics does not pinpoint fault, repair by symptom. See SYMPTOM INDEX  table under SYSTEM TESTS.
