Test B: Illuminated Entry
CAUTION:
Perform test ONLY if instructed to do so.
This test checks:
- Door handle switches
- Door jamb switches
- Ignition switch input
- Remote entry module
- Check continuity to ground at terminals No. 20, 21 (Black wire) and 23 (Black/White wire) of module connector. See Figure . See WIRING DIAGRAMS . If continuity exists, go to next step. If there is no continuity at terminal No. 20 or 21, repair open in Black wire between connector and ground. If no continuity exists at terminal No. 23 then repair open in Black/White wire between remote entry module connector and ground. When repairs are complete, reperform quick test. See TEST A: QUICK TEST .
- Check voltage between terminals No. 6 and 18 (Yellow/Black wires) of remote entry module connector and ground. See Figure . See WIRING DIAGRAMS . If measured voltage is 10 or more volts, go to next step. If no voltage exists, check and replace fuse "A" (60 amp) in engine compartment fuse panel, or repair open in Yellow/Black wire. When repairs are complete, reperform quick test. See TEST A: QUICK TEST .
- Check voltage at terminal No. 8 of remote entry module connector with ignition key switch at RUN and OFF positions. See Figure . See WIRING DIAGRAMS . If measured voltage is 10 or more volts, go to next step. If measured voltage is less than 10 volts, repair open in White/Purple wire. When repairs are complete, reperform quick test. See TEST A: QUICK TEST .
- Check continuity between terminal No. 11 (White/Light Blue) of remote entry module connector and ground when each front door handle is lifted up, and when handle is in normal position. See Figure . See WIRING DIAGRAMS . If there is continuity with handles lifted, and no continuity when handle is in normal position, go to step 7 . If there is no continuity when either handle is lifted up, go to step 6 . If there is continuity with handle in normal position, then go to next step.
- Disconnect remote entry module connector and both door handle switches. Check for short-to-ground between terminal No. 11 of module connector and ground. If there is no continuity, replace door handle switch. See POWER DOOR LOCK SYSTEM -- BRONCO, ECONOLINE & PICKUP article. If continuity exists, repair short to ground White/Light Blue wire. When repairs are complete, reperform quick test. See TEST A: QUICK TEST .
- Check continuity between terminal No. 11 of remote entry module connector and White/Light Blue wire connection to handle switch of the handle(s) which failed step 4 . If continuity exists, repair door handle switch. See POWER DOOR LOCK SYSTEM -- BRONCO, ECONOLINE & PICKUP article. If no continuity exists, repair open in White/Light Blue wire. When repairs are complete, reperform quick test. See TEST A: QUICK TEST .
- Reconnect remote entry module connector. Turn the ignition switch to OFF. Check voltage between terminals No. 7 and 19 (Black/Light Blue wires) of remote entry module connector and ground when the door handle is lifted up. If the measured voltage is 10 or more volts (voltage reading may be delayed up to 15 to 30 seconds), go to next step. If measured voltage is less than 10 volts, replace electronic remote entry module. Reperform quick test. See TEST A: QUICK TEST .
- For each door: Disconnect electronic remote entry module connector. Measure the continuity between Yellow/Black wire and remote entry module connector terminals No. 7 and 19 (Black/Light Blue wire) with the door open, and then closed. See Figure . See WIRING DIAGRAMS . If there is continuity with door open, and no continuity with door closed (for all doors), go to next step. If there is no continuity with door open (for one or more doors), replace faulty door jamb switches. If there is continuity with door closed (for one or more doors), repair short in door jamb switch or circuitry. When repairs are complete, reperform quick test. See TEST A: QUICK TEST .
- Momentarily connect a jumper between remote entry module connector terminals No. 6 and 18 (Yellow/Black wires), and terminals No. 7 and 19 (Black/Light Blue wires). See Figure . See WIRING DIAGRAMS . If the interior lamps illuminate, go to next step. If the interior lamps do not illuminate, repair open in Yellow/Black and Black/Light Blue wires. When repairs are complete, reperform quick test. See TEST A: QUICK TEST
- Inspect both remote entry module and test connectors for loose or corroded terminals. Repair terminals as necessary. If connectors are okay, replace remote entry module. See REMOTE ENTRY MODULE under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Reperform quick test, see TEST A: QUICK TEST .
