Fuel Pump: Installation
WARNING: This page is about a different variant/trim than selected.
- Ensure packing is not damaged. Packing fits between fuel tank and fuel pump. See Fig 2. Replace packing if damaged.CAUTION: Fuel pump must be installed straight into fuel tank. DO NOT tilt fuel pump when installing, or packing may be damaged.
- Apply soapy water solution on inside of packing. Install fuel pump in fuel tank. Ensure fuel pump is installed straight into fuel tank to prevent damage to packing. If fuel pump is tilted during installation, packing may be damaged. Packing must be properly positioned between fuel tank and fuel pump. See Fig 2.
- Apply soapy water solution on outside threads on fuel pump retaining cap. Install and tighten fuel pump retaining cap to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
- Apply soapy water solution on around fuel pump retaining cap. Plug high pressure fuel line fitting and vapor line fitting on fuel pump. See Fig 2.
- Apply 1.5 psi (.1 kg/cm2 ) air pressure on return fuel line fitting on fuel pump. See Fig 2. Check for bubbles around fuel pump, packing and fuel pump retaining cap to indicate a leak.
- Release air pressure. If bubbles exist, repair leak at fuel pump, packing and fuel pump retaining cap as necessary. If no leaks exist, to install remaining components, reverse removal procedure. Tighten high pressure fuel line-to-fuel pump nut to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
