EVAP Purge Solenoid
- The EVAP purge solenoid is located on firewall, just below wiper arm. See Figure
.
- Place identification tags on hoses for reassembly reference at EVAP purge solenoid. Disconnect hoses and electrical connector from EVAP purge solenoid.
- Using vacuum pump, apply vacuum on fitting "A" on EVAP purge solenoid. See Fig 1
. EVAP purge solenoid should maintain vacuum. If vacuum can be maintained, go to next step. If vacuum cannot be maintained, replace EVAP purge solenoid.
- Using jumper wires, apply battery voltage to electrical terminals on EVAP purge solenoid while applying vacuum to fitting "A". See Fig 1
.
- EVAP purge solenoid should not maintain vacuum. If EVAP purge solenoid operation is correct, disconnect battery and go to next step. If EVAP purge solenoid operation is not as specified, replace EVAP purge solenoid.
- Using ohmmeter, check resistance between electrical terminals on EVAP purge solenoid. Resistance should be 36-44 ohms at 68°F (20°C). Replace EVAP purge solenoid if resistance is not within specification.
