Converter, Catalytic: Installation

  1. If new gaskets need replacing, position new gasket onto the manifold flange and install the lower retainer plate (2). Loosely install all bolts to align the gasket. Tighten lower retainer bolts (2) to the proper torque specification. Refer to TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS .

  2. Position the catalytic converter (3) against the exhaust manifold. Position the converter flange (2) to the retainer (1).
  3. Install the upper flange bolts. Tighten upper bolts to the proper torque specification. Refer to TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS .
    NOTE:

    Be careful not to twist or kink the oxygen sensor wires.

  4. Install (if removed), connect the oxygen sensors electrical connectors.

  5. If removed, install the lower transmission strut to pivot through bolt (3).

  6. Install the cross-under pipe (2). Refer to PIPE, EXHAUST CROSSUNDER, INSTALLATION .
  7. Start the engine and inspect for exhaust leaks. Repair exhaust leaks as necessary.
  8. Check the exhaust system for contact with the body panels. Make the necessary adjustments, if needed.
