SUBJECT

Poor Radio Reception &/or Noise in AM/FM Mode

REFERENCE

Chrysler Motors, Technical Service Bulletin, No. 08-02-87, February, 1987

CONDITION & CAUSE

Some 1985-1986 Lancer and LeBaron GTS vehicles and 1987 Shadow and Sundance vehicles may exhibit poor radio reception or noise in AM and/or FM mode. Condition may be caused by the blower motor.

DIAGNOSIS

Turn ignition switch ON with engine off. Turn blower on to third or fourth speed. Turn radio on and tune to a weak AM or FM station which exhibits noise. Turn blower off. If noise is no longer present, a capacitor assembly (4443174) should be installed at logic module.

REPAIR

  1. Disconnect battery. Remove glove box assembly and logic module. On Lancer and LeBaron GTS vehicles, punch or drill (using a No. 31 drill bit) a 3 mm hole in right kick panel area.
  2. Align capacitor assembly (443174), on right side kick panel area and install self-tapping screw (6032473). Disconnect existing blower motor pigtail from wiring harness. Connect wires from capacitor assembly to connectors from wiring harness and blower motor.
  3. On Shadow and Sundance vehicles, punch or drill (using a No. 31 drill bit) a 3 mm hole in right kick panel area. Align capacitor assembly (4443174) on right side kick area and mount with self-tapping screw.
  4. Disconnect existing blower motor pigtail from wiring harness. Connect wires from capacitor assembly to connectors from wiring harness and blower motor.
  5. On all models, install logic module. Reinstall glove box assembly. Reconnect battery. Verify blower motor operation.
