Camshaft Position Sensor

The camshaft position sensor, functions to detect the top dead center position of the number 1 cylinder and to convert that data to pulse signals that are input to the Engine Control Module/Powertrain Control Module (ECM/PCM). When the engine is running, the camshaft position sensor outputs a pulse signal. The ECM/PCM checks whether pulse signal is input while the engine is cranking. The sensor(s) are positioned over the camshaft. See Fig 1 or Fig 2 .

ECM/PCM uses this information along with information from crankshaft position sensor to determine if fuel injectors and ignition coils are properly sequenced for correct cylinders.
